Re: Car battery charger for marine batteries
An automotive charger should be fine for marine AGM batteries, but check the unit or the manual that it has a setting for AGM. Some have a switch you need to flip for lead/acid vs AGM charging. I use a battery tender junior for all my batteries, it has a chip in it which automatically regulates outp...

Some call it 'oilcanning'. Happened to my Ty too.
After moving to a better trailer, the fiberglass has relaxed and taken its original shape.
FG is miraculous stuff.

Re: Guest 6-volt anchor light LED converson
Not familiar with that specific light, but searching for the BA9s bayonet base returned the following:
6v ba9s LED retrofit - superbrightLEDs.
superbrightLEDs.com is legit. I bought LED replacements for my silverado there.
Hope this helps.

Re: 30K " Leoma"
Hats off to you John, sounds like you've overcome more than just boat problems. No doubt about it a Cape Dory will take you to all those places you mention. Have you heard about Matt Rutherford ? He gained notoriety back in 2006 I think it was for being the first person to singlehand all the way aro...

Re: HOW big is that genoa?
Not an old salt, in fact I can still count the number of times I've been out on my Ty on two hands, but I believe the 130% genny is most-purposes like you say. It definitely gets more flying time than the working jib on my boat. I would think that anything much bigger would be overkill. The 130 shou...

Re: Typhoon Battery & wiring
The typhoon weekender did not come with any electrics. Any electrical devices were installed by owners. A lazarette would be a good place for a battery, but there isn't a true, compartmentalized lazarette on the Ty. I would think you could mount a battery box anywhere down below. I would aim for a s...

Re: Typhoon mast and winches cleaning
definitely would not use acetone on the mast. I would just use soap and water. finish up with semichrome polish. it shines up real nice and protects against weather.

Re: Solar panel battery charging
johnL, what are the specs on the battery you use? this sounds like exactly the setup I am thinking about on my Ty. I wouldn't even add a bilge pump, just looking to add a few dome lights down below and a car charger for recharging phones/hand VHF.

Awesome. Great footage and great edit. Really enjoyed seeing the tracking interspersed in there.
Looks like yall had some beautiful sailing. Makes me want to get some open ocean miles in.
