Naugus Industries Pre-1967 Rare Open Typhoon Daysailer #22



“Interlude” has sailed the waters of Pleasant Bay with the same family for twenty-plus years. She originally joined the family fleet from her owner’s in Osterville, MA as a temporary addition (therefore “Interlude”). Her huge cockpit (comfortably fits six adults) , beautiful lines and great sailing character changed that timetable. Three generations have all enjoyed her and it is now time for a new family to make her their own.

This is a very special boat. It has a huge cockpit with no cuddy or cabin. She has a fractional rig like a Weekender but a keel-stepped mast like a Daysailer. She is completely original including the Naugus builder's plate. Based on the builder's plate and other know Naugus Typhoons, we know she was built prior to 1967. She is rock solid, but in need of some TLC.

It was suggested I include some pictures here so they would remain as a reference on the Board after "Interlude" finds a new home. The flush deck (no cuddy or cabin) makes for a great family daysailer. Lots of cockpit with all of the great sailing characteristics of the Typhoon. Very solid boat. She needs a little work, but she is NOT a project boat! Teak is solid and complete -- the varnish is not! Complete with very good sails, roller furling, cockpit cover, etc. On Cape Cod. After a move to Irvington, Virginia and a lengthy renovation, INTERLUDE (Naugus Typhoon #22) is back in the water - Here's a few photos.

Beautiful! And I'm fascinated by the way some of the control lines are rigged. Traveler lines run up to the cockpit. An adjustable backstay. Halyards led to clutches (?) at the forward end of the cockpit.

What are the red lines that terminate at the aft corners of INTERLUDE?

Spinlock PXR cleats for the halyards and control lines.

Six PXR cleats on forward bulkhead:
Halyards: Main (internal), Jib (internal), Spinnaker, and Toping lift.
Control Lines: Cunningham and outhaul (not rigged yet)

Two sets Port and Starboard PXR cleats:
Forward Lines control the traveller: pulling the leeward line moves the traveller to windward; releasing it
Aft lines control the backstay: can be adjusted from either port or starboard - at the dock, we use these lines to lash the tiller on the centerline.

Red Lines on aft deck are spinnaker sheets; they run under the deck forward to bulkhead mounted blocks. We may mount cam cleats near the blocks.

Do they let you race with the Typhoon fleet? Do they fly chutes in the big OD race every other year? Would you happen to have any pictures of yours with the kite up? Gorgeous boat!
