Re: Securing a Bow Roller anchor on deck

Tim

I'm with Paul on this. A simple lashing for 99% of the time. For offshore add another at the crown/fluke. 1/4 nylon is fine and in a hurry you can just cut it. Pins and mechanical fasteners can get bent or jam at the worst times.

Re: Cutlass Bearing CD 30

One other trick is to leave a little bit of the cutlass sticking out of the tube. Just enough to grab with vice grips. When I have to remove the old one, I cut it as others have mentioned using only a hacksaw blade, then grab it with the vice grip and collapse it. Pulls right out. A sawzall is more ...

Re: heat on a 27

Don't forget the old standby. An unglazed red clay flower pot placed upside down on the stove over a low flame. Re: The Dickensen Newport Solid Fuel Fireplace. I have had one on my boat for quite a while and after trying too many fuels I have settled on chunk charcoal. It is easy to buy, store and g...

Re: winterizing outboard

What I do with my smaller outboards. I bring it home and run it in a trash can for about a half hour to get it well flushed out. Then I disconnect the fuel line (or shut the fuel valve) and let it run dry. After it stops I pull the plug(s) and shoot WD40 in the cylinder(s) and then wet down the enti...

Re: Ground fault interrupter shore power cord

Something tells me it would be worthwhile simply installing GFCIs at each outlet. 30 Amp adapters aren't inexpensive. http://www.zoro.com/value-brand-line-cord-gfci-30a-240v-3-ft-44720-012-3/i/G4013606/?utm_source=google_shopping&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=Google_Shopping_Feed&gclid=Cjw...

Re: Painting Exterior Teak

Let me suggest Epifanes Yacht Enamel. I used their Dado Brown, number 11. On my boat, not a CD, I have trailboards, and name board and hailing port board. These have been almost impossible to keep varnished and working on them from a dinghy - nuff said. The paint is almost indistinguishable from var...

I agree with you and will add to your observations that I have never seen a locked prop winch in a lobster pot or crab trap.

Re: How do scuppers function on a Typhoon, and how to unplug

For starters the scuppers in a Typhoon and many small sailboats are quite small and easily clogged. There generally isn't a practical solution other than replacing them with larger ones. That said I have found that using a hand bilge pump often clears them. Something like this ( http://www.walmart.c...

I much prefer snakes to Flesh Eating Bacteria, at least most snakes are more afraid of humans than humans are of them. Should I add that snakes make good BBQ as well.

I have always taken it out for a two week cruise. This way it gets to know how the boat works and get settled in comfortably.

Try falling off a touch and easing the jib sheet some. Then flatten the mizzen as the tiller is thrown over. Don't mess with the jib until it comes through the wind. This might help him.

Re: Throw Line for Horseshoe buoy

One thing that has not been mentioned is securing the line to the horseshoe. I doubt that the little ring would be able to take the type of load if someone was hanging on the ring and the boat had any way on. You might consider passing the line through the ring and around the body of the horseshoe a...

Re: AGM battery experiences

While it doesn't make access any better it does make filling easier. I bought a sink supply tube and slipped vinyl hose over the end. I use about six feet of hose. To use I sit a gallon jug of distilled water above, but near the batteries, drop the supply tube in the jug and lead the hose to the bat...

Re: Update on Your Lehr Outboard Experience?

Just a few random thoughts and yes I did consider the Lehr. First Re: Russell's remark In warmer climates and southern Europe Butane and Butane/Propane mix are more common. However this applies to refillable tanks not the "throwaway" 16.4 bottles. When outside the US the 16.4 throwaways ar...
