Re: What to do with an old Typhoon
I have to agree with michael et Toni. Fix er up. A Tyhoon isn't just another run of the mill production sail boat. IT'S A CAPE DORY. You would be surprised what a rank novice can accomplish with a little guidance, advice and leadership. About the time that I retired, I agreed to help a new owner of ...

Hmmm.
An interesting thought. Is there such a thing as a geezerette? Just wondering.

Re: On becoming a Geezer Sailor
Hi Warren, It is great to hear from you and other members from the early years of the CDSOA. Yeah, I guess that I qualify to be called a geezer. I sail very little these days but I satisfy my sailing appetite with my daily visits to this forum. It's not a bad thing to be a geezer. It has rewards tha...

Re: Typhoon Adventures
How true, on all of Tod's points. How very true. I don't know if you heard what the pious sailor said about sailing in hazardous conditions. He said "I'm not allowed to sail in snotty weather because of my beliefs. You see I'm a devout wuss and I'm only happy when I'm warm, comfortable and well...

Re: Typhoon & Typhoon Senior freeboard measurements needed ~
Hi AJ, Here are the measurements on my Ty Weekender. The water line was originally established with a laser level. The measurements that I now mention are from the deck level to the top of the water line. They were taken with a tape measure that closely followed the hull curves. The stern measuremen...

Re: On becoming a Geezer Sailor
I used something that usually worked for me when single handling my Ty. But it also worked as well with a crew on an 85' schooner when approaching a dock under power, preparing to tie up. Secure a short line about mid ship of your craft. Have fenders out. Sidle up to the dock as close as possible. T...

Re: ANNUAL MEETING REGISTRATION FORM IS POSTED for Sept. 16
Hi Cathy, I sure wish that I could have been there. Did Bruce or anyone else take pictures? Hopefully, we could be treated to seeing them. Would it be asking too much to add names to the smiling faces? Everyone enjoy the beautiful weather that a lot of us are having recently. For the others, remembe...

Hi Roberto, I'm really sorry to hear about the troubled weather conditions that the southern states are enduring. So far, how are you making out? I hope that nothing major has happened to you, your property and your boat. BTW, I am wondering how Zaida and some of the other Cape Dorians made out duri...

Re: Anyone sailing a CD Typhoon in Long Island-NY?
Louish,
I was born and raised on the north shore of Long Island. Where are you located? I'm up on a great lake now.
I'm thinking of selling my two Tys and trailers shortly. Somebody's going to get a good deal.
Take care,
O J

Re: Wind
Roberto I kept my boat at a slip in a local marina. When a storm of great size threatens, I would haul the boat. An owner could secure his boat to the nth degree of care, but it always seems that it is the careless neighbor's boat that snaps its mooring and runs amok through the mooring field. For m...

Re: Winter Mast Storage
In a previous answer on this mast removal topic, I asked if you had much thunder and lightning storms in your area. My thought in mind was that a metal mast sticking straight up might be considered a lightning rod. I have no answer if the mast should be grounded or be kept isolated from earth ground...

Re: Suzuki 2.5hp repair
I agree with Roberto as to the use of gas mixed with ethanol. Non ethanol gas is readily available here in central NYS although lt costs a little bit more than regular 87 octane gas does. The non ethanol gas sold here is 91 octane. I suggest that you avoid gas with ethanol mixed in.
Good luck,
O J
