Re: Mast rake on a cd28?
The following from the Cape Dory Owner's Manual has always worked well for me: 3.29 TUNING THE STANDING RIGGING The purpose of tuning the rig is to adjust the center of effort of the sail plan fore or aft to obtain a slight weather helm in moderate winds, and to keep it straight without hooks to por...

Re: Mast rake on a cd28?
Steve is correct, the mast should be vertical. From the Cape Dory owner’s manual: "The fore and aft alignment of your mast can be checked by comparing it to a vertical structure such as a radio tower, chimney, etc. Before checking the mast alignment in this manner be certain that the boat is re...

Re: Good Old Boat review of CD 27'
My icebox definitely has some insulation around it. The icebox is encapsulated inside a larger fiberglass enclosure with (presumably) some insulation in between. It looks to be original to the build since the material and paint (gelcoat?) seems to match the rest of the space.

Re: Good Old Boat review of CD 27'
First let me say that I love my CD 27. I love the simple/sturdy design, the salty looks, the teak and the bronze hardware, the way she handles and her comfortable motion through the water. While certainly no club racer, she is surprisingly fast. Just a few comments after reading the article: * I wou...

For what it's worth, I agree with others who don't like the idea is of running the rode fro stem to stern outside the lifelines.

Re: Anchor bracket for a Danforth anchor stored on stern rai
Hi Roberto, My boat had a Schaefer anchor bracket like the one you were considering when I first purchased it. It worked adequately, but looked cheap, and I removed it after the first season. I've been looking at this Mantus anchor bracket: http://mantusanchors.com/product-category/anchor-bracket/ R...

Re: Spreader Boots
I stopped using spreader boots years ago. My spreader tips are nicely rounded so there's nothing to catch or snag. It's quicker to rig, easier to inspect and I think it looks better.
Just my two cents,
Jim

Re: Throw Line for Horseshoe buoy
Hi Roberto:
I think the product you referenced would work fine. I don't think it will know whether it's attached to a ring buoy versus a horseshoe buoy.
Regardless, the key is to use polypropylene line since it floats.

Jim

Re: What is the best value for a Windvane for a 25D?
The stern does look a lot like a Cape Dory, so I asked the seller. It's a Cheoy Lee Offshore 31.hilbert wrote:This early Monitor looks like it was mounted on a small boat (maybe a Cape Dory?).

Re: Non-skid color selection
Hi Roberto, Between the lighting and the camera, I don't think the color is too accurate, but it does give a good representation of the contrast between the two colors. I'm planning to visit next week and will try to get some better photos. Truthfully I don't know that I can do any better until the ...

Re: Non-skid color selection
For what it’s worth, I decided on Awlgrip Oyster White with Awlgrip Moon Dust for the non-skid. I visited the boat one last time today before finalizing my decision. The Oyster White is the closest match to the color of my hull, I think closer than the Vanilla White I was considering before (Thanks ...

Re: Non-skid color selection
Hah - you thought you were being clever, but Awlgrip actually makes a Snow White! Roberto, On my color chart, the Oyster White is VERY close to the Vanilla White I was considering. If I was to go with either of these whites then I think I would go with either Moon Dust or Grand Banks Beige for the n...

Re: Non-skid color selection
This thread is very timely for me. I’m having the deck painted and need to finalize the color selection by Monday (i.e. in a day and a half). From the Awlgrip color chart, I've narrowed the white to Clipper White, Off White or Vanilla White. Off White is the safe choice since it’s between the other ...
