Typhoon mooring

Thanks everyone - I will look for a 150 pounder and extra heavy chain since I do not want to pull the mooring very often!

Ty deck recore

I repaired the stern deck on my Ty a year ago and did the typical multiple hole technique, dried it out for a few months then squirted epoxy with filler back into the holes. After it hardened I sanded smooth then repainted the deck. The lateral movement of moisture is generally restricted to a few i...

Mushroom mooring for Typhoon

Does anyone have a recommendation for a mushroom mooring size for a Typhoon in moderately protected fresh water lake where the waves might get to 2 feet and winds may reach 20-30 nots on occasion?

Typhoon roller furler

I have installed a CDI #1 with bearings on my 1976 Ty - It is extremely easy to use - makes it easy to singlehand to and from a mooring or evenb to a dock - do not even use an outboard. I just roll up the jib and sail in with the main. I have used other roller furlers on my other boats and like the ...

CD 22 or Typhoon

I recommend that you get a Typhoon to start - Sal Randazzo's boat is for sale and she looks like a beauty - If you decide to move up later you will have no trouble selling a Ty. The CD 22 you are looking at seems to me more of a project than you sound willing to attack. Everything is repairable - yo...

Typhoon bottom paint

Tim - you are 90% towards doing a complete bottom job - spend two weekends and finish the barrier coat. After scraping the old bottom paint off use a 60 grit Random Orbital sander and clean remaining paint off and clean off the shine in the gel coat then wash down with the proper solvent and apply t...

Typhoon in the snow

:D Check out the current issue of Good Old Boat - there is a nice photo of a Ty on jack stands in the snow in Scituate Mass. Although this makes a nice image I feel better covering my Ty to keep the frost wedging action out of the toe rail and other places where many years of ice expansion could cau...

barrel rigging

After sailing for the past 30 years with boats having both types of turnbuckles I concur wholeheartedly with those who favor barrel turnbuckles. Also, when using stainless steel, galling (fusion) is commonplace - especially when tightened under load. I am currently re-rigging my Typhoon with the ope...

Thinking of sailing in winter

Great photos! Yesterday I tightened the tarp lines in my Ty in anticipation of yet another Vermont snow storm. Skiing is great however ! :D

cetol light

I took the teak on Victoria (76' Ty) to bare wood and replaced 40 percent of each toe rail. The splice was epoxied and sanded to a fair finish. I then put on 3 coats of Cetol light - lasted all season. You can hardly tellwhere the splice is located. I then touched it up before covering her for the w...

Bristol Corinthian

I have a friend who is trying to sell his Bristol 19 (Corinthian). Is there anyone out there who is interested in this boat? Price - with trailer and motor about $3300.00. I can email photos if you are interested and send me your email address.

CD 10 seat locker

I noticed in the CD10 brochure that the seat locker was an option. What does it look like, where is it located? I want to install one as I restore the CD 10 I recently purchased.

Typhoon spreader

I had the same problem - appears that salt corroded the two parts together. Squirt some WD 40 into the spreader where it sits on the post then apply some mild heat. This should separate the corrosion bond - Then place a cloth over the spreader where it is on the support post and gently twist with a ...

Loran

I also have a loran that I have never used since converting to GPS. I will try to use it however just as a backup. However there is an internal battery that needs to be replaced before you can effectively use it. I tried for weeks to get it to work until I read the manual (natch - typical - RTD). Th...
