Thanks and farewell CD board
It is with a heavy heart that our family bid farewell to our CD 28 Su Lan last week. While we only spent a year in Su Lan's company, she brought us many days of happy sailing and family fun. Due to my extended stay in Iraq and our desire to move up to a larger boat when I return, we decided that it ...

I keep my boat in Washington, which isn't so far away from where you will be. Unfortunately, I'm in Iraq through the end of July. Otherwise...

great pics and a question
I'm looking running some lines aft on my 28 and I am curious about FeNix's set-up. It looks like the main halyard is tied off at the mast but several other lines run aft? Which are they and why were they selected?

removing teak to refinish...what about the plugs?
I removed some of my teak to varnish it but I ran into a vexing questions that stopped me cold - when and how do you varnish the plugs to cover the screws?

Jib halyard winch on cabin top
I was going to use the winch that is mounted on my cabin top starboard side and the cam cleat behind it. I assume these were used by the original self-tending jib somehow. I assume it is mounted strongly enough to hoist the sail until I can install some other gear.

replacing main halyard and running it aft...how long?
I'm ordering a bunch of stuff so I can launch and use my boat while I am home in a few weeks. I am installing a Dwyer halyard organizing plate and replacing the main halyard, which is toast. I'm going to go with sta-set X in 5/16 or 3/8 (based on other posts I have read). My question is how long sho...

Clarification on Bill's post
Bill is spot on with his comments. I don't want people to get the wrong impression though from the "plant oil" phrase in the first sentence. As Bill points out below, vegetable oil, whether it is SVO (virgin, clean veggie oil straight from the jug) or WVO (waste vegetable oil) is different...

change your fuel lines
biodiesel will eat fuel line that is not specially developed for it so go ahead and buy some viton line in the correct size and replace those old lines you were going to do next year anyway. I have three cars that run on it (including two that were gas engined before I installed vw tds). Biodiesel r...

CD 36 vs. Pearson 365 vs Allied Princess best world cruiser
After some more feedback from the board and my surveyor, who has alot of blue water experience, I have rejected the CD 33 in favor of a larger boat. We can all live with less but as he and other CD 33 owners pointed out...a boat seems big when you are moving but becomes alot smaller once you sit som...

Cleaning/degreasing engine and bilge
I don't think the engine or bilge on my boat has been cleaned in many years. I have had a small oil leak and fuel leaks since I purchased the boat (since repaired) so there is plenty of crud in these areas. I would like to spray the whole thing down with degreaser and hoes it off, using the bilge pu...

storage and living
You have a good perspective on it. I think he is concerned about both. Certainly more storage space can be found, which in turn frees up living space. One of the big problems is not being able to sleep in the vee berth in a seaway...means all three of us have to be in the main cabin, thus the quarte...

Surveyor suggested more boats
After a few email exchanges and some more research, I've broadened my search a little. Dinettes are excluded and the nav station and quarter/pilot berth are a must. I want a cutter or a ketch. I'm down to three or four boats right now...Allied Princess, CD 33 and 36, and a Pearson 365. my surveyor i...

CD 33 as blue water cruiser
Greetings from Baghdad, After having rejected an Allied Princess after a survey just before I left for Baghdad in November, I've had some more time to research and think about our next...and hopefully final...boat for an extended cruise for myself, wife and 5 year old. There are alot of options out ...

New handrails for 79 CD 28
Greetings from sunny Baghdad. Not much sailing but there is plenty of wind today. I removed the original flat handrails on the cabin top from my CD28 and I want to replace them with raised one with the cutouts so you can tie things to them and whatnot. I have seen premade teak rails for reasonable p...
