Re: Adding hinged mast base to Ty Sr..?

Thanks Brian. That’s exactly what I’m looking for and it appears to be quite beefy and solid. Reading thru the CD Owners Manual I was surprised to learn that basically all of the CDs (except very early ones), have cabin-stepped masts… (I briefly owned a CD26’ way back in the late ‘80s but had forgot...

Adding hinged mast base to Ty Sr..?

After experiencing a near-nightmare while manually unstepping the mast at float in stiff breeze during purchase in FL (no option at the time…), I’m thinking of adding a hinged baseplate to allow more control during raising & lowering mast (on trailer..?). Or should I simply plan on doing it post...

Annoying vibration from Tohatsu l/s 6hp..?

The Ty Sr I just purchased came with a 2 yr. old Tohatsu 6hp w/26”+ shaft mounted in the outboard well at the rear of the cockpit - for some reason that I’ve yet to figure out, this engine generates a vibration that causes the seat locker lids and other things to rattle excessively regardless of thr...

Ty Sr specs vs CD22 etc.

I’m the proud owner of 1986 Typhoon Sr. (#33?)”Sonnet”, and have a couple of questions… Although I received an original brochure for the Ty Sr from “Fairport Sail, Inc.” of Grand River, OH(!?!), there is No mention whatsoever in the ‘86 CD Owners Manual..? So my 1st question is Why is that..? I unde...

Re: Wanted: Sliding Hatch for Typhoon

I have one or more I can spare... I’m pretty sure I’ve got a regular used one as well as one that I’ve reinforced with 2 layers of 1/4” ply so it can withstand a heavy foot or support a sitting crew member. Give me a call or text or email - 843-450-2498. Depending upon where you are I might even be ...

Re: I need a used mast for a Typhoon

Have you already tried Capt. Jim’s Salvage? I know he’s had Typhoon parts in the past, so it’d be worth asking... There are also a couple of marine salvage businesses in RI and one in Quincy, MA and Fall River. Of course there’s Sailorman in Ft. Lauderdale also. There was a fellow selling a Typhoon ...

Re: Best Cape Dory Ever Made

I was talking with the owner of Bristol Bronze a few years back and he told me that he once asked Carl Alberg if he had a particular favorite from amongst his hundreds (perhaps thousands?), of designs, and without hesitation he replied that it was the Typhoon, because it was one of his earliest and ...

Typhoon (#700’s...1980ish), for sale $200!!

This somewhat “neglected” Typhoon is on CL Greater Boston, MA w/o photos, but the owner “Ron” is helpful and knowledgeable. Boat is located in Bedford, MA and is sitting on a cradle trailer that is capable of transporting the boat (to some extent anyway), with addition of better tires... Typical sof...

Re: CD Typhoon parts on Ebay

I have a pair of bronze Typhoon chainplates you can have for $40. Also have four original Schaefer SS tang-type chainplates (they run through the deck & fasten below), available for $50. They came from a Nauset Typhoon. Call or text if interested... 843-450-2498

Re: Trailers and Boats

The trickiest part of launching and hauling a Typhoon is stepping and unstepping the mast before and after. I offer a simple mast-raising accessory that doubles as a mast carrier during transport - it is basically a telescoping aluminum stand that sits on the rear deck and has a roller at the top. W...

New SailRite sails for Typhoon W/E for sale...

I have a set of matching (blue!), DIY SailRite sails available for sale. The jib (not sure of size), is mostly complete (may need some finishing touches), and the main is still in panels as received from SailRite in their kit form. I thought I’d get around to finishing them (even bought a HD Morse s...

Re: Typhoon w/teak deck...

I know of, and have seen pictures of, two Typhoons that had teak decks (3/4” planking), installed by an independent shipwright in Miami. He did a beautiful job on them and the results were gorgeous! I’m not aware of Cape Dory ever building Typhoons from the factory with teak decks however.

Re: Loose fitting rudder on shoe pin

I apologize Keith for perhaps not providing enough information regarding the use of West System epoxy for this repair. I ought to have mentioned that Gougeon Brothers have published reports on using their products for exactly this application (making bearings that is), as I described in the prior po...
