Johnson SPX 1250 gph pump won't lift water
After over-wintering layup my first sail of 2023 found the SPX pump running continuously with the 3 position switch in auto. Investigation found bilge full and water going nowhere. Suspecting a plugged bilge line, I snaked from the siphon breaker connection to the outlet and then back all the way to...

Re: CD28 stuffing box
I share your disgust for the compromised and totally inadequate access to this area of utmost importance. Your CD28 must be similar to my CD26D. I am 6'5" and just limber and long armed enough due to practicing yoga to bend and slither into this awful Gehenna and check the stuffing box. I repla...

Coach roof thickness
I'm considering a main sail uphaul on the top of my CD26d (hull#78, last CD26 hull made). Probing inside I determined the "dead space" between the headliner and the inner roof surface to be ~3/4 inch. Does anyone know the thickness of the fiberglass roof? Has anyone mounted a winch and nec...

Re: Cockpit control lines
Interesting thread, I've been considering a similar project for my CD26D for the same reasons. Even on my smaller boat, going forward to raise and lower the main at the mast is a little dicey in rough conditions (safety first!) I'm considering Garhauer fittings for my project to raise and lower/reef...

Battery Draining Gremlin
I've been chasing a battery drain issue on Mirabile (CD-26D, hull #78, 1988) for two years. I have two Deka marine 12V batteries connected to a 35 Watt Sunwise PV panel through a charge controller (unknown brand, came with the boat, 5 years ago). I reserve Battery #1 for starting the Westerbeke W10-...

Re: CD1997 27 needs an alternator
Call an alternator shop with the model number off the back of the alternator, they will tell you if they can fix it or not. I currently have a Mitsubichi from my Westerbeke 10-2 (CD26D, 1988, hull #78) at Armature Service Co in Little Rock AR. Much cheaper than buying from marine dealership.

CD 26D - Erratic temp and pressure gauges, maybe alternator?
Need electrical advice! Recent observations of temp and oil pressure gauges on Mirabile (CD26D, 1988, hull #78) showing erratic movement and trending well past normal readings (185 degrees F, and 55 PSIG) with falling voltage reading 13 down to 11 volts. No alarms from panel for temp or oil pressure...

Chesapeake Sailing
A temporary work assignment has me back in Norfolk, VA for a month starting next week. I would love to sail on a real body of water, are there any area Cape Dorians in need of a crew member on the weekends? I would even be interested in light maintenance work if I could gain some experience in how y...

Re: Sole Mate
nh,
Have you found a party to share cost of the plywood described in your post? I may be interested. I have several soft spots appearing in the cabin sole of my CD26 and I anticipate replacement is necessary. I live in the south, so I would need it shipped.

Deks Olje or not?
I realize I'm wading into murky water on the teak treatment issue  , but I would like to ask if anyone has experience with Deks Olje (D1 and D2). My teak is in good shape and I have been using Semco teak sealer for two seasons. however Semco weathers very easily and needs cleaning and reapplic...

Re: Painting waterline with hard bottom paint?
If a paint is for above the water line it means it. I repainted the boot stripe on my CD26D with Rustoleum marine paint (green) and it bubbled within 3 months and looks like crap (much time spent researching and prepping the job too). I'm going for hard bottom paint next time I pull it out.

Delaware River and New Jersey
I realize this is a bit off the CD topics list, but does anyone have a contact for rental property near Salem NJ? I figure there are a few CD owners in the area that might be able to share a lead. I am looking at a 4 month stay to work near Salem starting in January. I would also like to spend some ...

Re: Heat Exchanger
Zelda et all, How safe is it to remove the HE and trust a radiator shop to boil and clean? I have exactly the same ambition for the HE on my CD-26 Westerbeke w10-2. I fear a reckless jobber used to big diesel radiatorswill mishandle this little dainty cylinder and I will be "slip-locked". ...

Re: CD 26 Brought Back to Life
Great job! I also have a 1988 CD26 diesel, hull 78, which I believe is the last one made. I purchased Mirabile (latin for miraculous) from a family member after it sitting 5 years on the hard in a graveyard for houseboats. It was too good a deal to pass on. I too had a lot of housekeeping to do. I n...

Re: Any Cape Dorys in Sequim WA?
Thanks for the pointers. We start at SeaTac and head to Port Townsend, then Olympic NP. I would like to see the 26 at Friday harbor, my 26D has extra rigging that I can't figure out. The CD that might be in Port Townsend is a long shot, but Ill look around as far as I can.
