Not at all ...

Stan,

No, we did not "bite off more than we can chew." Not in the least. That boat is in restorable condition and we had every intention of restoring it and were not daunted by the prospect at all.

We have had a change in our circumstances which requires raising some cash, that's all.

Zeida, I had to chuckle at your comment about how the crane "dropped" your boat in the water. I learned a hard lesson a few years ago when I was the new assistant dockmaster at Cape Marina in Cape Canaveral and called the dock crew on the radio to ask them to drop a customer's boat in the ...

We purposely chose the CD25. We've had big boats before, our last being a 41' Islander Freeport that we lived on for five years. She was a big, heavy, cruiser/liveaboard that was lots of fun to sail because of her stability, hull design and sail plan. After moving ashore two years ago, we wanted a c...

Hey Scott!

We have the exact same problem with our '73 CD25 project boat. How much do you charge? Kidding - but we will be studying these pics when we attempt our own repair - thanks!

I live in Charleston

I live in Charleston. The Charleston City Marina on the Ashley just up from the CG station will be the most convenient for you to get around town. It's up-to-date, has all the amenities, is relatively affordable, has a shuttle service, and is walkable to downtown. We have a cruiser friend who is sta...

Thank, OJ! I appreciate it! As for this: The movie was "Tugboat Annie". Its stars were Marie Dressler who played Capt. Annie Brennan and Wallace Beery who played her lazy, beer loving husband who stretched the truth a bit far. Their son, Alec, was played by a very youngish Robert Young. Ca...

Although my better judgment says to keep quiet, based on past responses to my posts, I can't help myself here. Not only, as was rightly pointed out at least once so far in this thread, are ships unable to stop "on a dime" they are also constrained by draft. In general, depending on the loc...

I work for the harbor pilots in Charleston and use AIS every day in my job to locate the ships coming into our harbor prior to sending a pilot. While large commercial traffic (ships) always uses AIS, there are a lot of vessels out there that do not. Specifically, many pleasure craft (the exception b...

Rich, I don't have any photos of the boat here at work. I'll check my computer at home but I don't think I have one that would help. I'll get out to where the boat is stored later in the week (weather permitting) and will take some and post them here. Because we will be using the boat only as a days...

CD25 stern rail

I have searched this board and the brochures and manuals available on this website and still can't find an answer. Our 1973 CD25 does not have a stern rail. The lifelines are attached to strap-eyes through-bolted on the aft deck just inside the toe-rail. My question is: did these boats originally co...

Sea Owl, We are having the exact same problem on our CD25. Something back there on the inside of the transom had rusted so badly it split the fiberglass and popped through and fell into our hands in small pieces. We still aren't exactly sure what it should look like, except for the photos we've seen...
