I've seen pictures of aluminum Bomar hatches on boats as small as the CD28. I've considered it for my boat, but the I've been put off by the cost.

Re: Projects Lead To More Projects
John,
I don't remember how Fred handled the bulwark where they run into the chain plates and shrouds.
I made some brackets out of G10 and fiberglass to make room for them.

Re: Projects Lead To More Projects
I think that welding ss plates on the stanchions is a good and proven modification. It's how Fred did it when he prepared his CD28, FeNix, for circumnavigation. For the longest time, Fred's web site was online detailing how he refurbished his boat and then his voyages around the world. It has gone d...

Re: Projects Lead To More Projects
I stopped glassing the hull/deck seam about a foot aft of the chainplates. https://www.cruisersforum.com/attachments/gallery/4/5/5/9/0/100_4085_v1.jpg It got to be too much work under adverse conditions in a boat yard exposed to the elements. However, I did continue to glass over the deck all the wa...

Re: Projects Lead To More Projects
Where I glassed the hull/deck joint, I applied three layers of biaxial cloth. In addition to being watertight, this is stronger than when the deck was held with mish-mash and some screws. While I used a ~12:1 bevel on the topsides, I completely covered the deck with two layers of biaxial from bow to...

Re: Deck Fittings - CD27 Potential Rot Areas
On my 1976 CD28: The outer edges of the deck are solid for a few inches. Generally, this is enough for the width of the stanchion base, but not always. Some of the inner bolts were very close if not in cored deck. The hull and the sides of the cabin are solid glass, but the cabin top is cored. The c...

Projects Lead To More Projects
This week, I put the boat into the water. Some of the work that I have done requires additional modifications to accommodate. The hawse pipe has moved aft with the addition of an anchor windlass. I'm planning to put in a length of PVC pipe to quide the chain to the bottom of the boat. This will prob...

Re: Weather stripping for cockpit lockers?
Could you tell us the dimensions of the foam you used - thickness and width? This project dates back to 2011 and I don't have a record of the dimensions. I took some measurements today and the width is 1" and the thickness ranges from 3/8" to 3/4". I found it interesting that the ste...

Re: Weather stripping for cockpit lockers?
The distance between the lids and the lip is inconsistent. I purchased strips of neoprene EPDM rubber on Ebay and applied them in layers to account for the gap. When you get it right, the rubber keeps water out, prevents rattling and exerts a satisfying resistance against the latches that secure the...

Re: Replacing Spartan SeaCocks with Groco - some questions
.. curious how others handle this. I installed new seacocks with the studs threaded into G10 backing plates (no bolts thru the hull). When epoxying the backing plates in place, I waxed the threads of the thru-hull and the flange adapter and used them to hold everything in place while the thickened ...

Re: Replacing Spartan SeaCocks with Groco - some questions
Unscrew the thru-hull from the seacock, remove the bolts and then lift off the seacock. I was able to remove all the thru-hulls using a flat metal bar, pipe wrench and a length of pipe for leverage. Applying a heat gun to the thru hull will help to break it lose, but you probably will not need it. A...

Re: Single Burner Sea Stove
Judging by the asking price for used Bremer Sea Swing stoves on eBay, they are prized and in high demand! I used 8 thrust ball bearings in the construction of my stove. They are available on Amazon for about $1 each when purchased in a package of 10 (ASIN : B082PP2FY3). Over the years, there have...

Single Burner Sea Stove
I came across a thread on the WoodenBoat Forum called "Making a gimballed stove" ( http://forum.woodenboat.com/showthread.php?234382-Making-a-gimballed-stove ) The Jetboil Halfgen propane stove was used for the project. It's large 9" stove top has a 10,000 BTU burner that can boil a ...

I hope they can secure all those hoses over away form the oil dipstick and the pump. It looks like it will be difficult to use that pump for changing oil. It on the right side under those hoses It might be possible to move the pump from it's engine mount to a more convenient location. https://uniim...
