Instead of using mineral oil, I use the pink polypropylene glycol (the stuff you winterize your water tanks with). The instructions that came with my puck gave that as an alternative to mineral oil. Works fine.

Jay, A friend of mine has the 3g. I saw him on Monday and I'm pretty sure he said that by the end of the year, the coverage for the iphone will be significantly better. I think Apple is making a deal with Verizon, which is excellent for coverage everywhere I've gone. Here's a link that might help: h...

Re: Disappointing
Bob, That's disappointing. For the cost of the new bracket, it should be fit perfectly and serve cold beer! I wonder why it wasn't drilled for the clevis pin? That's the entire point of the bracket! I don't know why the hole wasn't pre-drilled. It was reasonably simple to get the correct angle usin...

bracket from Rig Rite
I had to replace my bracket about 8 years ago. The bracket that I got from Rig Rite had holes already drilled for mounting onto the mast, but they did not fit to the existing holes. I had to redrill and tap to a larger size hole. ALSO....the hole for the clevis pin was not there. I had to create a j...

Joe, Interesting. What I get from the NOAA site is KAP files after unzipping. What link did you use to download the files? Perhaps I'm downloading the wrong type. I did get this to work in January. Don't know why I can't now......Looking at what I had added in Jan, I see they were KAP files!!! Very ...

Maptech Offshore Navigator problem (or is it just my problem
Earlier this year, I've was able to download RNC files and add the chart to Maptech's Offshore Navigator Lite. Today, I downloaded some more charts and get a program error with no real help for diagnosing the problem. I've tried single charts and multiple charts with no success. The error happens wh...

kayak, We keep our boat up in Bodkin Creek at Hammock island. Only sailboats, on small island about 150' off the mainland. The owners live right there. Bodkin Creek is at the southern entrance to the Patapsco River. http://www.hammockisland.com/ If you go to the site, be sure to turn your sound off ...

Bruce, Welcome to the board. I spent about 18 months all told in NZ over a 26 year period from 1977-2004. Most of my time was spent in Christchurch, and the rest traveling around your beautiful country. In fact, I had my sails made in Nelson (Bud Nalder for Doyle Sails) back in 2001. Sometime around...

Brett, I keep my boat in Bodkin Creek off the Patapsco River entrance. I've kept Magdalena in the water for ten out of eleven winters. I haul every second year to clean and paint the bottom, check for blisters (none since 2000 and then only 3 small at the water line). As far as seacocks, I pour anti...

Dean, The 32s came as cutter or sloop rigged. Mine happens to be sloop, although I had been looking for a cutter rigged CD at the time. BTW, do you keep your boat at Handy Boat? On our Maine cruise we spent two nights there while visiting Whisper's Captain and First Mate. Bob Bob, I just thought of ...

Here's a photo of Magdalena's foredeck for comparison. The original CD hawsepipe is visible aft, stbd. This geometry works very well.
