iphone on Chesapeake Bay

I am located at Herrington Harbour South on the Chesapeake and am curious if anyone in the area uses their iphone on the bay. I was thinking about investing in one and performance on the bay would be a factor. I would not only want voice but 3G data to work in day sailing range from my home port.

Any experience would be helpful and appreciated!

Jay,

A friend of mine has the 3g. I saw him on Monday and I'm pretty sure he said that by the end of the year, the coverage for the iphone will be significantly better. I think Apple is making a deal with Verizon, which is excellent for coverage everywhere I've gone.
