Re: Cape Dory 27 For Sale

Yes. She is on the hard at City Island, NY, and just about to be shrink-wrapped for winter.

Coast Guard Checks in western Long Island Sound

Members of our yacht club at City Island, NY, report experiencing or witnessing safety-inspection boardings of sailboats by C Guard in recent weeks. Nothing difficult or unpleasant, but reports are that the check-list seems always to include the long-required overboard discharge warning plaques. Suc...

Cape Dory 27 For Sale

For Sale: CD 27 sloop (1977; hull #47). After 14 years of happy sailing, retirement and relocation make it necessary to find a new home for “Abigail.” She has been sailed almost weekly during each summer and fall, and has been well maintained. Original bronze fittings are all in place. YSB8 engine r...

Re: At long last, its time to say goodbye.

Sorry for your loss, Warren. I too have good memories of your posts, especially in my early years on this board after buying ABIGAIL in 2002. With retirement to Pittsburgh looming, I am not far behind you in bidding farewell to sailing a CD 27 on Long Island Sound.

CD sailors in Erie, PA?

Are there CD owners on Lake Erie willing to correspond with me about Erie, PA as a home port? I am making a retirement move to the Pittsburgh area and have boat questions to decide. Thanks.

Re: Cape Dory Rally - City Island YC, NY

I too am interested. Since my boat is permanently moored at City Island this will not be a long trip for me. (Note that our club, The Harlem Yacht Club, on the west side of the island, usually has guest moorings available.)

Re: I feel like an organ donor

Thanks, Tim. And if you are in NYC area, get in touch. We can get you out in Long Island Sound on one of Slainte's sisters, and we can swap stories abou the Mississippi.

Re: I feel like an organ donor

Tim, Seeing your location on the Mississippi: I grew up in central Illinois and spent a lot of time with relatives in St. Louis and Alton. Also spent boyhood summers at YMCA Camp Piasa not far north along the river at Grafton. The Mississippi is a beautiful river, but I cannot imagine trying to sail...

Re: I feel like an organ donor

Can I just contribute to this wistful exchange by saying that I still run the factory original Yanmar YSB8 in my CD27. It starts on the 3rd beat without fail and does not leak a drop of oil or water. Sometimes I wish for 3-4 more horses in the harness, and under power I will never sneak into a harbo...

Re: Moving to NYC

I enthusiastically recommend the Harlem Yacht Club on City Island, where I have been a member for 10 years. We have 2 or 3 Cape Dory owners in our club. Our sheltered mooring field on the west side of City Island provides immediate access to the west end of Long Island Sound. We have winter storage ...

Hurricane Sandy at City Island, NY

City Island, NY at the western end of Long Island Sound--home to four yacht clubs and several commercial boatyards--suffered significant tidal surge during Sandy, but probably less than might have occurred. My own Harlem Yacht Club had almost its whole fleet hauled out by the time the storm hit, and...

Re: Racor filter on a CD27

My Racor is mounted on the bulkhead under which fuel tank extends forward; it is at about the same height as the top of the tank. Had this set-up now for 5-6 years with no problems. My engine is the original YSB 8 with electric pump.

Bill,
I THINK the number you need is (718) 507-TIXX. Otherwise try the options on the official NY Mets website.
