Re: Racor 500FG in a CD27

The 500FG has a flow rate of 60GPH. You might want to consider a smaller filter assembly rated more inline with your needs. My CD27 uses Racor's diesel spin-on series with the R12 cartridge. It's compact and fits easily within the engine compartment.

Re: Union in my head...

I would second M.R.Bober's opinion. Specifically that something has to give. Mounting the tank in a firm but flexible bed that allows thermal expansion as well as flexing would likely provide a long happy life to your installation.

Re: Who owns SANDRA LEE in Falmouth, ME?

Here's the owner info listed in the Cape Dory Registry. This boat has been listed for sale on a number of sites over the past couple of years.. Sandra Lee (ex-"Flohtson Paradise", ex-"Emotional Rescue") purchased 2006 from Paul Kamins. Hull #363-- the last one built. Busily makin...

Re: Seller's rant

I'm with Bruce (above). There are lots of folk still asking pre-2008 prices for boats that won't command 70% of that today (at best). A CD 30 cutter for $40-50K? A CD 27 for $28K and another one (albeit stellar) at $35K? Some pricing just isn't realistic. But I do get the point, especially as someo...

Re: Seller's rant

Negotiations are here to stay. To me, individual etiquitte is often what's missing. Everyone wants to think their getting a deal, so I bump my price up a bit and often add the words, "price reduced", so would-be buyers smell the blood of distress. I own a retail business, so expect an asso...

Typhoon Daysailer on Craigslist - Maine / NH

Saw this on Craigslist. Don't know what it's worth. If I didn't already have a CD27, I'd be checking it out.

Westerbeke Preheat Solenoid - Glowplug Not Heating

THis weekend I resolved an issue with erratic glowplug heating on my CD27 Westerbeke W13. When depressing the ignition key to engage the glow plug solenoid, it could take 10 or more attempts to see the voltmeter drop, indicating current flowing to the glowplugs. Westerbeke identifies the glowplug so...

Re: windpilot pacific on cd 27

Thank you.... I found the post that caught my eye describing the Light version of your pilot. This windvane was originally purchased for my Cape Dory 26 but never installed, as I sold the boat shortly thereafter. I was going to hang on to it for "the next boat", but pretty much all my sail...

Re: windpilot pacific on cd 27

Is the Pacific Windpilot the "light" model, as was advertised for sale by the CD26 owner in New Hampshire? I own a CD27 (20 years today) and researched that particular unit at length. My concern was giving up access to my hardmounted transom ladder. My swim ladder gets lots of use, but I w...

Re: Looking to buy a replacement chartplotter

Picked up a Garmin 546S plotter a couple years ago. Very spendy, but love the crisp color display. Very fast startup, pans nicely. Owned Garmin handhelds before that, including the 45 and a 76map. Both were trouble free and served me well. Still use the 76map frequently, primarily to conserve on bat...

Re: CD27--Cabinet Door Beneath Sink?

My 1984 CD27 has a small magnetic latching door located beneath the sink. I use it for opening and closing engine cooling and sink thru hulls.

Cape Dory Aesthetics

It does seem funny that someone would choose bronze for aesthetic reasons, but I'll confess to having done so for my own purposes. For me, a Cape Dory has a significant aesthetic element, which to a large degree is what drew me in so long ago. Every time I step onto SATU, I pause to catch my breath....

Lewmar Bronze ST Winches

I installed a pair of bronze 16 ST Lewmars on my CD27 about a month ago. They look and function wonderfully. Purchased them from Defender. Enjoyed sailing SATU for nearly 20 years without them, but the necessity of cleating and recleating while tweeking sails is honestly not something I'll miss. Lik...

Oil into Yanmar Cylinder

Removing glowplug(s) might be another and simpler option for getting oil into the cylinder.
