Racor 500FG in a CD27

Post by tjr818 »

I have one but I cannot find a great place to mount the filter. :( I didn't realize how big a Racor 500 FG really is.
Has anyone else mounted a 500 FG in a CD27? :?:

The 500FG has a flow rate of 60GPH. You might want to consider a smaller filter assembly rated more inline with your needs. My CD27 uses Racor's diesel spin-on series with the R12 cartridge. It's compact and fits easily within the engine compartment.

Hi Tim,

I just installed a Racor 500MA (like the FG but with a heat shield) in my CD25D. It does have capacity for 60 GPH, but that doesn't seem to be a problem for the little 1GM Yanmar. It's on the suction side of the pump and it doesn't seem to matter. Regarding size, it actually is about the same size as the Fram filter that I removed, and fit in the same space. When locating it you need to plan space above the housing to remove the filter and below it to drain off water/crud. Parker doesn't supply the necessary reducing bushings. The ports are 3/4-16 UNF (ORB), so to add a hose barb you need to adapt to a pipe thread 3/8" or 1/4" NPT for example. The bushings are not so easy to obtain locally. Grainger has a selection in stock and shipped mine next day. Hope you can find a location, having the clear bowl and top loaded filter is a big improvement over the old Fram.
