Ty and Trailers
Dmitri... One small note. Unmentioned above was the fact that you do need the right trailer. You will need some extension to get the Ty into deep enough water at the ramp to float it. Triad comes with a 18' (or so) extension bar to go between the trailer and tow vehicle. You can rig one yourself for...

Jib Sheets
Mike...a picture is still worth everything. I remember that thread but evidentally didn't watch it to the end when you posted that shot of the neat mount of the cam cleat and with track showing clearly. That is what every later Ty I've seen (without the cam cleat) had. Thanks for the homework. OJ......

Fixed fairleads
Aaargh...me thinks it is time to get new tracks. While you are waiting for them to arrive you can fill the old holes. Get some with rounded tips (sometimes sold separately) so if you should ever send someone past them barefoot they won't totally open up their foot. Fixed fairlead would be tough. Onc...

Typhoon outboard
Pete... On a Ty, weight considerations come before everything else!!! I have a 5hp 2 stroke Tohatsu. 44# with tank filled. You want something lighter. The 5hp is way overkill as to power needs. Hopefully someone will post with their success with motors down to 2hp because that is what should be cons...

Jib sheets
Bly, It would be hard to do without the fairleads that are on the tracks on the cabin top. The working jib comes well inside the shrouds when working to weather. The adjustment fore and aft is needed because all jibs are cut slightly differently, although once set I find I rarely make changes. I wou...

How long is a Ty?
Thanks for feedback. I too think that 'hardware to hardware' can be defended by the marina but that somehow precedent should have been kept somehow. I see absolutely see a 2hp outboard in my future! Good idea with per foot prices being what they are the extra 2 feet rounded up is over a 10% penalty....

Typhoon Weekender Length?
My Ty has been in the same marina for almost 10 years. New management just sent me a letter that they conducted an 'audit' and found that my boat has grown longer! This is because they admittedly measured to the end of the outboard, and naturally the letter was accompanied by a bill for the differen...

Neptune not one to be messed with
Didereaux, Neptune possesses superhuman strength and his Olympian metabolism gives him far greater than human endurance at all physical activities. Neptune is one of the strongest of the Olympian gods, and can lift (press) 70 tons. Among the Olympian gods, his level of strength is matched only by th...

Typhoon cockpit drains
Just to add to the confusion I'll vote for #2. Whereas upsizing etc could be a good idea, because of the limited space I would be reluctant to do anything to shorten the distance between the seacock and the fitting on the cockpit sole. That short hose is hard enough to install as it is and be happy ...

Bow Pulpit
My personal preference is to repair any damage to the fiberglass and leave the bow pulpit off. Makes it much easier for crew to pick up a mooring, push off and dock, etc. There have been many discussions over the years about this but I just think it gets in the way. My 2¢ for what it is worth. Rudder problem
Bob, I have an '84 and it is identical to Oswego John's description. I suggest that you take his advice asap. You can't do it in the water, however so just don't let the rudder post move upwards. I'm surprised that 1" travel didn't get you already into trouble. If it did come out of the bearing...

Hoarding sandals against future shortages
I regret to say that I am guilty of such a crime. I do not recommend it since my experience was that by the time I pulled the 'spare' pair out, the soles were so hard they had no grip at all, even though they had been stored in their box on the shelf of a cool, dry, unairconditioned closet.

Another solution
There are a couple of reasons that I end up with two pieces of line as jib or genoa sheets rather than one continuous one. One is that sooner or later I end up with good line that is too short for anything else. Also there are boats that I take inexperienced crew with often. Then it is nice to have ...

Of course Ty's are the best looking sailboat on the lake! I know because I can't even begin to tell you how many power and sail boats have come by and told me so!

Securing Mast while trailering a Ty
As noted, a good trailer (like Triad) will have a crotch for the mast forward of the bow. What we did was adapt the outboard mount to take a crotch at the stern so that we weren't lashing the mast with lots of downward torque at the aft end. We got a mast crotch for a Hobie Cat. They have a base pla...
