TY Weekender for sale!!!

I have a 1973 TY Weekender (hull no, 506) with main, jib, genoa and spinnaker with pole. Also included is a new Tohatsu 3.5hp longshaft outboard and 6 foot fiberglass dinghy. Boat needs some minor cosmetic work, but otherwise she is a very sound and seaworthy little keelboat. photo album on request.

......What about a new Yacht Club???

It could be the perfect platform for a newly formed YC. Think of the decks.....think of the sleeping quarters. No need to drive home after a regatta bender. We'd have 253 instant members.

Cheers!

I bought a new (2007) Tohatsu 3.5 hp long shaft. It's light and works against the current of the Merrimac river with little trouble. It may be overkill for you, however. I always take it off of the mount after use and store it down below. I really disliked the look of any motor hanging off of the tr...

Tim, I would love to see those pictures of the new portlights. I too, have entertained thoughts of replacing the existing with bronze opening portlights. The price has been the only thing holding me back. Also, I saw from your profilethat you bought a new boat. Congrats. I lok forward to seing you o...

Dan, I'm really happy with the outboard. Reverse has never been a problem. If you need to you can just spin it 180 degrees and that will do the trick. The only "issue" i had with the motor was the idle. Initially it would start and run fine, but at the botton of the idle stop it would stal...

What a spectacular view! As we were descending into San Francisco International Airport last Sunday evening my first officer and I were treated to an absolutely fantastic view from the cockpit window of this majestic vessel. She had just crossed under the Golden Gate Bridge and was being saluted by ...

I don't actually remove it under sail, but do take it off the mount and store it down below after each sail. I've got a 2006 Tohatsu 3.5hp long shaft that is relatively light. I just tilt it up fully while underway and it has never posed any problems. I suppose if the wind was strong enough and clea...

Mike - Sounds like a great sail! That's the best kind of weather. The wind's screaming, the air is cool and the sun is shining. Having enjoyed a few days already this Fall like that out on the Atlantic, I fully understand your passion and excitement. Impressive little boat, eh?

I have often wondered the same thing, I bought a new Tohatsu 3.5 long shaft two months ago for my Typhoon and wondered if I could use it on my Achilles inflatable. Now I know. Thanks guys. Makes more sense than lugging my Merc 7.5 around including gas tank on a craft which barely measures 9 feet. Th...

I agree with the two previous posts. Although fine in theory, rolling the boom to furl the sail is a major pain, not to mention degrades performance. I had a local sailmaker install two reef points in my main for the cost of $65.00. That was a no brainer and I definitely don't regret the decision.

Your welcome! I have to warn you, however, that once you start sailing her more and getting comfortable with her habits, the tendency to retrofit always enters into the equation. It has happened to me on every sailboat that I have ever owned. Have fun with the boat and try to fight the temptation to...

Hello Mike and susan, I wouldn't fret too much about replacing and adding a bunch of new 'stuff' to your boat at this point. Learn to sail your boat and have fun with it! As you get more comfortable with it and all of it's tendencies, then you will be better equipped to decide what if anything needs...

Looks fantastic Mike! Well done. I just finished restoring my TY and found Bristol Finish to be an excellent product. After cleaning the teak with a two part cleaner (Teaka), I applied four coats of the Bristol finish without having to wait for it to dry and resanding between coats. That's the beaut...

Sandals

I have to say, without a doubt my Keens are by far the best experience to date. Then again, this is coming from a guy who rarely wears any shoes on his boat, or at the very least flip-flops.

Good luck!

Cheers.
