Re: Block for flag hoist on mast spreader

Roberto:

No problem with chafe with the fairlead, as the inner edges are well chamfered.

Re: Block for flag hoist on mast spreader

Hi, Roberto: In my former life, I installed flag halyards on over 200 new sailboats for dealers in Fort Lauderdale. For flag halyard mini-blocks, I used Schaefer Bullseye Fairleads, #78-51, instead of small blocks. These fairleads are small, black composition material, mount easily to the underside ...

Re: Glue remover

You might try GOO GONE, made by Magic American Products, Cleveland. www.GooGone.com.

Comes in an 8-oz. bottle, and is available in hardware stores, and possibly elsewhere. Test-try it in a remote spot.

Worked for me.

Amazing - and the books are real, not on an electronic device.

Re: Cape Dory 36

I bid the minimum, and won it. Don't need it or want it, so it will be on my shelf waiting for the owner of #19 to surface. Glad I bid, as it might otherwise have been lost.

#19 owner - it is yours if you show up and want it.

Re: A Paen to Bronze

Here's a list of some used and consignment gear shops. Nice to see them on one page, even though many/most of them probably now sell more new gear than used. http://www.goodoldboat.com/resources_for_sailors/consignment_stores.php I frequented a couple of them back in the day, and then ( '70s-'80's) ...

Re: Good book for winter reading

One of my favorites is " The Riddle of the Sands," written by Erskine Childers in 1903. It was reprinted in the 1960's, and may still be available today. It mixes a brew of seamanship, intrigue, spies, etc., and is set in the German Frisian Islands in the North Sea. Worth reading if you ca...

Re: Sailors and aviators

Please add me to the list. I had a private license, multi-engine, back in the 1970's. Never had a Cape Dory larger than 10 feet LOA (one 7.5dinghy, and several 10-footers) but, as a transplanted Cape Codder, have followed this site for a while.

Keep on keeping on.

Re: Cape Dory Dink 7'7" any owners out there?

I had a CD 7'7" back in the later 1960's in East Dennis, Mass. Don't remember where I got it, or the hull number. It was a fun tender to a 25-foot sailboat, and I sold it (perhaps with the 25-footer) when I moved into a larger boat. Since then, I have had 3 or 4 CD 10's, which I have resurrecte...

Re: The Best Wax EVER

I ran a small boatyard in Fort Lauderdale about 30 years ago, and Collinite wax beat anything else we tried, even the famous old Simonize (yellow can) paste wax that was much harder to apply properly. Much of our business at that time was bottom jobs and cosmetics, and Collinite was the very best, a...
