Re: Refrigeration

Nearly all 12v fridge systems use the exact same compressor and the same evaporator. My recommendation is to buy what you can find for the best price. That is for icebox converstions. If willing to give up space such as a quarterberth, the Engle and Dometic ready to go systems are fantastic (just ma...

Re: Galley Sink Drains --- A Word Of Caution

I went through the same issue, and issued the same word of caution several years back:

I went with standard PVC sink hardware.

Re: Farewell to Lady Pauline

Thanks all. The new owner came down from Alaska to Panama to buy the boat, a bit funny since I had last setup the boat for a trip to Alaska (which I still intend to take in the new boat). Mike, indeed it was great to meet, our paths may cross again yet! The Tayana 42 will be named Unbroken Chain (af...

Farewell to Lady Pauline

Lady Pauline has a new owner in a couple days. I owned her for about 11 years. I sailed about 20K miles with her(more actually, I stopped logging properly and didnt count the last couple thousand miles), back and fourth to the Caribbean several times. Over a dozen countries, countless experiences in...

Price drop to $45K.

Will do $40K soon but will be taking some gear off for that price.

Re: What would you do?

Post a photo of the damage, rather then the open cover.

My first inclination is to say, launch the boat and go sailing. Damage sounds pretty minor, but maybe your description does not do it justice.

Re: Fuse for solar?

Generally, if you think you might need a fuse, you probably do. 90% of boats are not properly fused, here in Panama I am doing a lot of charging systems for cruisers and most boats just have one large primary fuse and nothing else. I actually got into an argument with another guy here about fuses, I...

Re: Fuse for solar?

I'm in the middle of installing a new panel and Genasun controller. The old controller had a fuse wired to the battery. Genasun install instructions, however, make no mention of wiring a fuse. Wondering what to do? General feeling is that a fuse can't hurt. Being an electrical moron, I submit to th...

Re: seacock replacement

I have bought a Typhoon and the seacocks were frozen. I asked the seller to get them going again and to my consternation he drilled them out and threw the bronze originals away. Arghh. Now he wants to replace them with a contemporary non-bronze version. I have read warnings to stay away from plasti...

Re: Anchor bracket for a Danforth anchor stored on stern rai

Roberto, I am interested in quality above all else. It's just that there are many, many acknowledged problems with Chinese-made products. There may well be quality goods coming out of China. I just do not have the skill, education, training, etc. to know how to determine what is a quality product c...

Re: Anchor bracket for a Danforth anchor stored on stern rai

Glad to hear you are softening on your blanket anti China stance. Truth is the US makes garbage too sometimes (look at US cars in the 70s through 90s), or on the sailing front, try finding a reputable rigger who thinks using US made wire is a good idea rather then the far superior Korean wire. If yo...

Re: Anchor bracket for a Danforth anchor stored on stern rai

The Windline one is far nicer (and made in the US). I have never used the Schaefer one, but I have used the same exact style one and it is not nearly as nice (oh and Schaefer manufactures in China, I know that means more to you then actual quality).

Re: Flattening Agent for Cetol Marine Gloss?

I have friends on the Chesapeake who do that, just extra Cetol Natural and no Gloss, it looks good and its much easier to maintain and repair without the gloss coat. In hind sight, when I saw it, I wished I had gone that route.

Re: Flattening Agent for Cetol Marine Gloss?

Just dont put gloss on, build up extra coats of the base cetol finish, I dont really see what you accomplish otherwise.

Hmm, and it just so happens I have a CD36 setup for single handed ocean sailing up for sale! Maybe this will generate more interest.
