Subject: FW: 2018 Golden Globe Race Photo request?

Dear Sirs

On April 22nd 2015 we will be announcing to the world’s boating media a 50th Anniversary edition of the Golden Globe Race, originally won be Sir Robin Knox-Johnston in 1969 sailing Suhaili. The GGR will start on June 14th 2018. For now the details are confidential, but some are included below and the web site “Holding Page” http://www.GoldenGlobeRace.com is now online. You will see that the race is for certain production yachts only. A Press Release to 2400 global media outlets will be issued and we would like to include some High Definition pictures of the type of Yachts approved to enter the 2018 GGR. Including the Cape Dory 36

I am writing to you as your yacht is on the approved list of designs and I wonder if you would be prepared to supply a couple of pictures of the Cape Dory 36 sailing for us to consider using on our web site, in the press release and at other times to promote the race, as being indicative of the yachts a competitor could buy to compete in the race? We cannot pay for the images, but would credit the photos to you if we use them.

If you would like to support this event and supply two photos they should be around two Meg files and you could email them to this address.

Thanks so much for your time and consideration of this. Any pictures would need to arrive no later than April the 10th to be considered. It would be greatly appreciated if you could keep this news from your general membership until after the official announcement on April 22.

All the best
Don McIntyre

2018 GOLDEN GLOBE solo non-stop, around the world yacht race. (Confidential and Embargoed from the media)

Preliminary information
Stepping back to the golden age of solo sailing
In celebration of Sir Robin Knox-Johnston’s historic 1968/9 world first solo non-stop circumnavigation in the Sunday Times Golden Globe Yacht Race, a new Golden Globe Race will be staged to mark the 50th Anniversary of that epic, starting in 2018.
Like the original Sunday Times event, the 2018 Golden Globe Race is very simple. Depart Falmouth, England on June 14th 2018 and sail solo, non-stop around the world, via the five Great Capes and return to Falmouth. Entrants are limited to use the same type of yachts and equipment that were available to Robin in that first race. That means sailing without modern technology or benefit of satellite based navigation aids. Competitors must sail in production boats between 32ft and 36ft overall (9.75 – 10.97m) designed prior to 1988 and having a full-length keel with rudder attached to their trailing edge. These yachts will be heavily built, strong and steady, similar in concept to Robin’s 32ft vessel Suhaili.
Approval for Production yacht types for entry into the Golden Globe Race will be at the sole discretion of the Race Organis¬ers.

Hmm, and it just so happens I have a CD36 setup for single handed ocean sailing up for sale! Maybe this will generate more interest.
