Folding Dinghy

Another option is the folding Porta-Bote. I've dragged the smallest one (8'3") behind Kittiwake without problems in flat water. Was finally showed how to fold and unfold it across the life-lines, relatively easy to handle along - weight about 45 pounds. Storage is easy, although you need space ...

missing markers

I agree with all above - especially the missing markers - there were more this winter, especially in the lake. Diesel was pretty much not around - Port LaBelle Marina routinely takes Mondays and Fridays off to do construction work, and I stopped on a Tuesday that was really a Monday, but had more th...

Stuart to Ft Myers

I finished the trip from Stuart to Ft Myers then Ft Myers Beach on Kittiwake, a Cape Dory 28, without any problems either draft or height-wise. Single-handed the biggest issues were the locks, but they were okay once you figured out what was needed. They all had lines hanging, so it was pretty much ...

Wanted - Working jib for CD 28

Well, the original working jib on Kittiwake has taken a beating on the trip south, and my repair sewing may or may not hold. We've made it as far as Ft Myers Beach, but would like to replace before leaving here for southern climes. If anyone has a working jib for a CD 28 that they are interested in ...

A V-berth aboard if needed

I'm over in Back Creek, have an empty vberth if push comes to shove, although it sounds like it will not be necessary. If nothing else, come over to Davis's Pub for a beer and burger.

A good teacher's view

I need to comment - anyone can teach, but only those who can do something very good, and have thought about how to transmit that information to others so that they can build on it and make it "better", is a good teacher! Part of that is listening carefully to everyone, whatever their viewp...

Re: A better solution than the Spartan plastic...

...go to the Chandlery page http://www.capedory.org/stuff.html , about three items up from the bottom of the page, and follow the link to John Danicic's web site. Bronze screens for not much more than Spartan wants for the plastic, and a much better fit in the ports. Like the others, I agree comple...

Mears may have some

It may be more than you are looking for, both facilities and $$ - there are a couple of 30 ft slips that I think have recently been vacated at Mears Marina in Back Creek - I know that the process of renewals for next year is just starting, with Mid-Oct deadline for committing for next year - no idea...

Whale Gulper 220

I just installed a Whale Gulper 220 as a small 12 V, self-priming diaphram bilge pump - mft describes it as small bilge pump, shower/galley waste pump. It has worked extremely well over the last 6 weeks in keeping the bilge dry, although as a relatively small volume output pump it of course will not...

Thanks

As always, your comments and observations are appreciated. The MD 7A in Kittiwake runs warm, but not too hot. I'm going to start looking at the cooling system next week. I have noticed in the last week, as air temps have cooled down, that she is running noticeably cooler. Is that possible, I would h...

CQR

If you search the archives, you'll find a number of strings including my question last fall. In the upper/mid Chesapeake, usually anchoring in mud to soft mud, I ended up with a CQR 25 lb, 25 ft chain and 200 ft line after local advice and the advice from this board. It fits well on the bowsprit rol...

The Chester and Corsica

Just got back from 4 days up the Chester - Langford Creek a couple of nights and the Corsica one night. Alot of great anchorages and not many people, although there were cruisers starting to come up the river yesterday as I was heading back to Annapolis. Have a great trip!

MD7A hand cranking

John Thanks for info about hand cranking - I ran into the problem of how to keep it spinning as fast as possible and still release the compression lever this week on Kittiwake. By myself I couldn't get it to go. Would be interested in any ideas that CD owners have come up with release the compressio...
