Do it right with Dolphinite!
I've used Dolphinite on my CD 28 to rebed pretty much every piece of wood on the boat except for the toe rails and rub rails. It's an awesome product. Easy to work with. Cleans up with mineral spirits. Stays workable for years so it can handle expansion and contraction without cracking. Best of all ...

DON'T DO IT!
I would highly recommend against painting your brightwork for one reason. Resale value. When you get ready to sell that boat if the paint doesn't look like a million dollars it's going to kill your chances of selling the boat. Most people buy Cape Dory's because they want that classic look. When mos...

CD28 Owner Comments
Greetings All, Having owned a 28 since February I had to weigh in on this one. I LOVE the boat. Mine is a 1983 model. This is my second "big" boat. The first one was a Com-Pac 25. Sailing her is a real joy even in light air. In fact two weeks ago I blew past a larger fin keeled Hunter in a...

Best way to access CD28 stuffing box?
Greetings All, Well it looks as if I am going to have to re-pack Intrepid's stuffing box. Would really like to do it myself if possible so I can be sure it's done correctly. I've read ALL of the posts on this board regarding stuffing boxes so I think I have a good handle on how to do it. Only proble...

DeSolve It!
This response is probably way late for your project but for the benefit of others I used a product that I bought at Ace Hardware called DeSolve It. It did a fantastic job removing silicone film from both wood and gel coat. Just spray it on, let it sit for around 5 minutes and you will see the silico...

Had similar problem on previous boat.
On my Com-Pac 25, the metallic stripe was in baaaad shape so the last time I hauled her out I decided to remove it. Took me two days with a razor scraper. Hair dryer had no effect. The Florida sun had baked that thing on. The scraper took the sticker off but left the adhesive. Once the sticker was g...

Do it right with Dolphinite!
I've been using it on my CD 28 and really like it. It's messy to work with. Imagine working with peanut butter. Good news is that it cleans up easily with mineral spirits. Next weekend I am bedding my eyebrows. Going to try loading up a syringe with the dolphinite so I will have better control of th...

CD28 HULL # 346 - New Owner!
After lurking on this board for three months I am now the proud owner of a beautiful CD28 named Intrepid. I am in the process of restoring all of her woodwork. Special thanks to her previous owners whose postings on this board gave me insight into her care over the years. Thank you Ryan (?), John &a...

Old teak 2 new
This is the way I do it. First scrub all of the grime off with a scotch brite pad and some soapy water. Sea Safe works just fine. You will be suprised how much of the natural color this will restore. Then hit it with an electric hand sander. This method will restore it without using all those harsh ...

Question for 1983 model year owners.
Did your boat come with the aluminum backing plates or the rusty steel ones? Specifically interested in hearing from CD 28 owners out there. Thanks in advance.
