How to remove silicone caulk from varnished wood

Post by Jay Bonahoom »

I removed all the wood from my typhoon last week and there is silicone caulk in several places. Does anyone know a good way to remove it. I used a sharpchisel to get the heavy stuff off, but there is still a light film of silicone on top of the wood.

DeSolve It!

This response is probably way late for your project but for the benefit of others I used a product that I bought at Ace Hardware called DeSolve It. It did a fantastic job removing silicone film from both wood and gel coat. Just spray it on, let it sit for around 5 minutes and you will see the silicone start to wrinkle. Then I hit it with a razor scraper and it came right off.
