Re: Spade Anchor Recommendation CD 36
John, We used a 55 lb steel Spade on about 180 ft of 5/8 Hi test chain backed up by 100 ft of rope. Hauled up by a Maxwell 1200 vertical windlass. Wonderful anchor - self stowing and releasing on the roller, sets very easily and generally digs in within a few feet. I slept well at night. We transfer...

RE: Rocna on CD 36
Mitchell, Philip and Sharon,
Many thanks for the feedback. Is there any problem with either size Rocna (44 lb or 55 lb) contacting the bobstay?
Thanks,
Warren

Rocna on CD 36
Mitchell,
How does the 44 lb Rocna fit on a CD 36 bowsprit? Is there room for a bigger one? I have been looking at replacing my 35 lb CQR and 44 lb Bruce with a single big anchor, maybe a 55 lb or even the 73 lb Rocna.
Thanks,
Warren Stringer

LED's for berth lights
Paul,
The Sensibulbs fit just fine in our berth lights. I have replaced all the old halogens in our 1981 CD 36.

Washdown pump
A point of caution if you "T" from the head intake and have a Lavac toilet: make sure the entire intake hose to the pump is well below the siphon break in the head intake hose. Otherwise when you have finished with your washdown, any backflow from the deck fitting to the pump can fill the ...

CD36 mainsheet traveller
John, We made this upgrade several years ago - it is well worth it, although you will lose a couple inches of travel on each side. Our installation was done at and by Robinhood using a Harken traveller system. Our system has 4:1 purchase, which is marginal when we want to adjust the traveller to win...

Inside
We do not have a lot of experience but have been playing with the asymmetrical a few times this summer - always in winds under 8 kts and very calm water. So far, inside (between the tack line and the headstay) has been easier. Procedure (with a crew of 3, don't know how well this will work with just...

Bruce anchor caution
Several years ago we were overnighting between Cat Cay and Chubb Cay in the Bahamas, travelling in company with two other boats. We anchored on the bank in about 20 feet of water with a 44 lb Bruce on 100+ feet of 3/8 BBB. There was a fair amount of grass on the bottom but from the surface, at least...

Sail balance
Most line drawings I have seen show the CE leading the CLR a little. The reason, as I understand it, is that as the boat heels, the CE moves laterally to leeward of the center of resistance (to forward movement) and creates weather helm. This is part of the reason weather helm increases in stronger ...

CD36 and Max Prop
Eendracht's standarfd three blade prop was replaced with a 15 inch three blade Max Prop. The shaft was shortened 2 5/8 inches and re-keyed. It is a fairly tight fit but the aperture did not need to be enlarged nor the rudder stops changed.

rudder stops
We installed a Max prop on Eendracht, CD 36, 1981, without needing to modify the cutout or the rudder stops. As I recall, the shaft was shortened a bit.
