1979 CD27 For Sale, Waukegan, Illinois
Hello CDSOA Board, After eleven years of ownership, we are listing our CD27, Roberta Jane III, for sale. She has been a wonderful boat to own and to sail Lake Michigan off Chicago. Due to family and health changes, she is not getting as much use as she deserves. We motor sailed her six hours to Lars...

CD27 Cutless Bearing and Packing Gland
I noticed yesterday that the prop shaft on my CD27 is slightly loose in the cutless bearing. How can I tell if the cutless bearing and/or the prop shaft needs to be replaced and would tightening the packing gland provide a partial or temporary fix? In the event the cutless bearing needs to be replac...

Looking for water impeller fragments.....
Hi to all, My sailing buddy finally replaced the water pump impeller on his Yanmar 1GM 10 engine after the temperature warning light activated. With a new impeller, there is more water exiting with the exhaust but the temp warning light still activates after five minutes running time. The old impell...

Re: CD27 Cockpit Floor / Rudder Post Question....
Hilbert, Thanks so much for your responce. This board is great. Your picture is just what I needed to plan my attack and to explain to the First Mate what I am doing. Looks like digging out balsa core and creating an epoxy barrier is called for, not just by enlarging the existing screw holes but als...

CD27 Cockpit Floor / Rudder Post Question....
Hello, It has been some time since I posted due to other commitments but spring is coming and commissioning work has begun. Here in Chicago we seem to have cancelled winter for this year. Last summer when I washed the boat with the dock hose I would get a small amount of water in the engine pan. May...

Re bedding the deck fitting...
I had the same experience replacing sanitation hoses. Heat gun, soap and patience did the trick. With the deck fitting removed, I cleaned out as much of the balsa deck core as I could reach working from the inside edges of the hole in the deck. In some places, I cleared two to three inches beyond th...

Lake Michigan, Chicago data.....
NOAA has a weather station about two miles off shore from Chicago. I enjoy looking at the data for the days when we sailed and the days when we didn't. My wife and I had a wonderful sail Sunday afternoon, the 5th, but I am glad we didn't go out on Monday or Tuesday with 20 to 30 knots sustained and ...

Advice confirmed....
Twenty knots and five to seven foot "swells" on Lake Michigan yesterday afternoon. So with this thread freshly in mind, I had one reef in the mainsail and the 135 genoa furled to about 110. Made a consistent six plus knots with 10 to 15 degree heel and a very balanced tiller. One hand ligh...

Full open throttle when bleeding....
When using the fuel pump lever to bleed the lines, don't forget to have the throttle in the full open position. I nearly wore out my index finger pumping the lever before I realized the throttle was closed. Live and learn, sometimes slowly.

Correction on CO2
I re-read the letter from ACE and it says: "A portable extinguisher..... and the extinguisher is a gaseous extinguisher employing a clean agent like a Halocarbon or CO2." So CO2 is OK. It is the other stuff that leaves a residue and a significant cleaning problem.
