Lake Michigan Sailors Rendezvous

Post by David van den Burgh »

I suppose the paucity of responses should be answer enough, but in case it has something to do with the sticky being overlooked I'll post the request again here:
In an effort to get a better idea of who is sailing Lake Michigan and who might be interested in Lake Michigan Fleet events, my dad and I are asking you to send us an email. [Please click on either the "email" or "pm" button below left.]

Information to include in your email:
1) Name
2) Location
3) Boat
4) Interest in hosting/sponsoring/participating in fleet events
5) Summer cruising plans
6) A little bit about you, perhaps

At this stage, I'm just hoping to find out how many souls are out there and whether or not there's much interest in Lake Michigan Fleet activities. Additionally, it would be nice to have a current email list of members (it seems the owner registry is only semi-reliable).
Thanks for taking the time,

David

Three responses. Any more? So far we have a 30, 27, and a Typhoon. That's not counting Ariel or Lion's Paw, a CD28. I know that there are a couple of Typhoons north of St. Joseph. I'm pretty sure I saw an open Daysailor in Pentwater. And we saw a CD28 in Holland - SISU(?).

David,

The best way to contact other Cape Dory sailors is join CDSOA. Joining is easy and can be done on this website.

If you are a member, you should have a Membership Directory that CDSOA publishes every two years. The next one will be available 05/10. It has listings by fleet. This years directory will be so fantastic, it will be worth joining just to get a copy.
If you recently joined and missed the last issue that was published 2008, please team up with or contact the Great Lakes Fleet Captain as he has current live updates. His contact information is available on this site. Contact Us

Note: The online registry is not up to date and it is maintained only by users (members and non-members) It does not reflect the official Cape Dory membership database that CDSOA maintains.

Regarding the "Cape Dory Registry" of Boats...

By the way, the online Cape Dory Registry of Boats (and their owners) is not a resource of the CDSOA, nor is it maintained by the CDSOA. It is provided by the CCDOA (California Cape Dory Owners Assn.). All of the entries were posted by Cape Dory owners, and it is the owners who are responsible for keeping their entries up-to-date. If you're wondering how to do that:
  1. Scroll to the top of the page and click on the "REGISTRY OF BOATS" link. That'll take you to the Cape Dory Registry.
  2. About 4 inches from the top of the page, and right of center, there are 2 links: "Join the registry" and "Edit or delete your entry". Click on the "Edit or delete your entry" link.
  3. On the resulting page, click on the arrow in the drop-down box and a list of all the users will appear. Scroll through that list until you find your name. [NOTE: If you typed your name in all lower-case letters, it will appear somewhere near the end of the list.]
  4. Once you've found your name, click on it.
  5. Click on the "Edit Entry" button.
  6. Make your changes.
  7. Click on the "Pipe Me Aboard!" button. You're done.
You probably noticed the "Delete Entry from Registry" button below the "Pipe Me Aboard!" button. So if you want to remove your entry altogether, click on that button instead.

Don, right! We've been members since 2002. I don't, however, remember receiving a list of members other than the registry itself, which has a lot of old and non-functional email addresses. In fact, your post reminded me to go there and update my email address which I changed years ago!

Dave,

Scroll to the top of this page then look about 4 inches from the top. There's a row of navigation tools which include:

FAQ | Search | Memberlist | Your Settings | Private messages | Log out

If there are any private messages, it should show the number in your inbox. Anyway, click on the "private messages" link. The resulting page will list all of the topics for the messages in your inbox.

Also, don't include your email address within any postings. If folks want to contact you, they should use either the "pm" or "email" button. If you prefer, ask them to use the "email" button.

Gaining Momentum

Post by David van den Burgh »

Some replies have come in from Lake Michigan sailors. For those of you who might still be out there, I put together a site specifically for those of us sailing Lake Michigan. I'd love to add information about you and your boat, your cruising grounds, or whatever, so feel free to contact me via email or pm on this board.
