Re: Is it safe to put this in the water?

Glad you filled in the crack - also you need to add a layer of glass and epoxy along the edge of the rudder since it is laminated in 2 halves and add a layer of resin and glass on the bottom of the keel just to seal the existing hull to prevent water from wicking into the laminate. Then sail for the...

Re: Your Opinion? Embarking on a Typhoon Project

Already restored a Typhoon (1976) that had water in the bilge that froze and the expansion of the frozen water caused many small cracks in the fiberglass hull. After drying the hull out and drilling several holes in the bottom and at the top of keel ballast I first dried the space between ballast an...

Re: Correct CDI for Typhoon Weekender

I put the FF1 on my weekender 9 years ago and really like it. I downsized the control line so I could get a longer line on the drum and lead the furling line back to the cleat on the cabin top (port side) because I didn't want to drill any holes in the teak or deck for sheaves or cleat. I did attach...

Re: Cockpit sole repair/replacement

I tried the drill, scoop inject method on the aft deck of my 1976 Typhoon. It lasted a few years but didn't take long for the hole filling to "Pop" leaving rings where the dirt and extra water entered. Finally last year I bit the bullet and removed the portion of the deck needing the work ...

Re: Typhoon deck projects

Nice work - I also removed both toe rails with some repairs replacing damaged portions and all the hardware on my Typhoon - Cape Dory did a hit-or-miss caulking at the factory and some water got into the aft deck which finally was replaced last summer. The main sheet hardware and cleat were missing ...

Re: typhoon weekender shroud specs

I ALSO HAVE A WEEKENDER - 1976 - I had the shrouds, backstay and forestay replaced by Rigging Only. They said to tension the rigging, mark the threads then remove all rigging, identifying where they came from and send them to them. They did a fantastic job in a short time. Opt for open turnbuckles s...

Re: Typhoon differences between Weekender and Daysailer vers

I fell in love with the Typhoon when i saw it at the Newport Boat show in 1971. They were offering free rides but there was a long line. Since I was in the Navy I said that someday I would like to find one of these sweet looking boats. I left the Navy and moved to Vermont and Lake Champlain was beck...

Re: Typhoon differences between Weekender and Daysailer vers

Just wanted to add to my comments on the other post regarding the Typhoon. I have sailed a fin keel C & C 34 for the past 30 years and really liked it pointing ability and had a respectable race record. Once I got my beat-up Typhoon and restored her I decided NO RACING ON THE TYPHOON and I enjoy...

Re: New to List, Looking at Cape Dory Typhoon - Have Questio

I really like my Weekender - the cab in holds all the paraphenalia such as a paddle, battery, electric trolling motor, life jackets, fishing gear , tool box, fishing gear for the grand kids and whatever. I also installed the FF1 roller furler and really liked it - especially while sailing to and fro...

Look in the Defender online - there are two or three Barton Track slides with captive plunger for $39 - $42 each. The Schaefer is also available but over $100

Re: New to List, Looking at Cape Dory Typhoon - Have Questio

I concur with all the above comments about the typhoon. After club racing for the past 40 years I have also been sailing my typhoon for the past 10 and really like it a lot! It requires little helm, takes the wind and waves well and with the roller furling, allows me to sail up to the dock where I k...

Re: Typhoon Outboard

For what it is worth, I have seen two types of Typhoon outboard brackets - one that is straight and the other with a slight bend downward like the one in the photograph. I also have the bent one and have used a 4hp Nissan long shaft motor with no problems but have converted to a long shaft trolling ...

Re: Typhoon bilge and drain plug

My '76 Ty had no drain plug but there were freeze cracks in the fiberglass - especially around the rudder shoe. Once this area was cleaned and re-glassed there was no more water and the bilge pump has never had to work. Another possible area is the tube where the rudder pose is located as well as th...

Re: Lake sailing suggestions

YUP - lake sailing takes a lot of time to learn the variables of the wind - location, time of day, types of weather fronts etc. I learned when I was young on Lake George NY where the wind is affected by the surrounding mountains, reverses direction when entering bays etc. Then Lake Champlain with a ...

What a beautiful Ty - only 3 hull numbers different from mine! Same colors etc. Hope she sells for that reasonable price. You will certainly miss her.
