stepped or un-stepped
Ok folks, I'm one of those who's finicky about the proper use of vernacular or terminology. It is the teacher in me I guess :D I have been led to believe that the term "stepping the mast" meant taking it down. Some authors of this thread refer to un-stepping the mast as taking it down. Whi...

Great stuff too.
I've been an advocate of this paint for over 4 years now. I have put it on two powerboats, and am getting ready to apply it to Play it Again Sam in another month (or so). My 23' Penn Yan (powerboat) was in a brackish water marina for over 2 years, and 14 months of that time it stayed in the water st...

Picking up the load again
I just bought another hundred blank disks, and can send some out too. Anyone with a CD 25 will appreciate at least some of the stuff in this disk.
And, like before, don't worry about cost they're only $.29 per CD plus $.39 postage I've got you covered.

rpm's and torque
IMHO you want the rpms of the motor to be doing the work. More rpms = more work. A motor that moves you at hull speed just above idle doesn't give you much help when you need sloooow speed for maneuvering. Additionally, you will get a longer lifespan out of a motor that does its work in the range of...

its on the trailer
Thanks for all the input my friends. The boat is sort of on a trailer, but the trailer is not level, nor is the boat perfectly level on it. I removed the bunks and installed hull jacks, to facilitate the removal of more paint. I guess I can wait until I get it back settled properly on the trailer be...

the combing
Ron, I considered simply coaxing the combing board in place like you described, but decided to try stressing it at least a little first. I do plan on coating the back of it with a few generous coats of varnish before installing it. The new board was entirely custom made for me by a local shipright a...

CD 25 Waterline
After some considerable effort, we've completed the removal of many layers of bottom paint and barrier coating. What I failed to realize was that in the process, we were obliterating the original water line  . I've got a few references where it used to be, but connecting the dots is not going ...

The "doing" and the "done"
Varnish is a cult driven process. In refitting "Play it Again Sam" we've taken to removing and replacing several sizeable pieces of teak. . . to the tune of about $400 in lumber now  . Making the new match the old, or worse yet, making the old look like new has been a genuine challen...

Awlgrip
I made a call to a local boat yard this past weekend asking this exact same question, and they put their expert on the line with me. Without exageration, he stayed on the line for half an hour with me, answering all of my questions and concerns, and explaining the differences in preparation, applica...

Clove Hitch
When I was being "schooled" at the Cuttyhunk Jr. Yacht Club, we were also taught the CLOVE HITCH. It is functional on a piling because it won't slide, and won't bind on itself to the point where it can not be untied with minimal effort. It probably has another name, but is basically two ha...

got it!
Dana, I won the auction for the Davis 25 Sextant, and it should be arriving shortly after the Thanksgiving Holiday. I'll PM you when it arrives and we'll set up the tutoring. Meanwhile, I've been going through the "nutshell" book and am learning some of the terms and abbreviations. Will Be...

knotty cleat
I was leaving the marina last week and happened upon this mess  and had to take a picture with my phone. The stinkpot that was tied up in this slip had 5 lines cleated just this way. My 15 year old son pointed them out to me with a chuckle.. I guess some people don't understand that cleating a...
