Re: Cape Dory 26 for sale, Maine

The kicked up outboard also gives an extra half-knot of speed when under sail alone. Thanks for the kind words Jim.

Re: BRONZE OVER STAINLESS

John,

You can also get nice bronze pintles and gudgeons from the nice folks at Marshall Marine in Dartmouth, Mass. Find them at http://www.marshallcat.com They produce a nice 16-foot catboat (I own one) that has the hardware you're looking for in bronze.

Re: Anti-Fouling Paint for my CD 25

This is how I solved the problem. Took some time (30 hours?) but was worth it. No drag when sailing too.

Re: CD26 jib lead track size

When I purchased my CD 26, I figured those jib sheet blocks on the deck tracks were undersized for any sail bigger than an 85% jib. I think your experience tends to verify my guess. The 1986 product brochure for a CD 26 (available on this site) shows a 100% jib being used with the block and track li...

Re: YSM8 big issues!

Having once repowered a CD 27 with a Yanmar 1GM 10, I can say I wholeheartedly agree with jfischgrund. The YSM8 was originally designed to be power for an irrigation pump, the marine application was secondary. When I replaced mine, it wasn't even in as bad a shape as the one described here. It was j...

Re: ICE Plunge Education or let's not DIE!!

Well said, John Stone. Alas, there will always be people who want to not only tell you what to do, but some will try to put the force of law into what they prefer. 'Tis life, I'm afraid. In Maine, old timers used to be proud that they didn't even know how to swim. "Just prolong the agony if you...

Re: ethanol-free fuel

I've been using 100LL av-gas from the local airstrip (Wiscasset, ME) for three years now and the stuff is great. I use it both in my 4-stroke, 6 hp Tohatsu and all of my 2-stroke garden power equipment (chain saw, splitter, generator, etc) and have had NO issues with it. I do have big issues with th...

Re: Yet one more question about 1GM and low Revs

This problem has cropped up on some of my boats in the past and it sounds like a fuel issue. Specifically, you're fuel is likely full of gack, sludge and other undesirables. Much of it is likely in the fuel tank itself because the fuel filters take care of what passes through the lines. (You do have...

Re: New owner of Cape Dory 26 / Mast Weight Question

A rough estimate of my CD 26 mast's weight (with all rigging attached, including RF) is 135-150 lbs. I base this on two facts: 1/ Two men in their 60s can hoist it on their shoulders and move it a VERY short distance; 2/ I regularly hoist mine, alone, to the top of my barn's 2nd floor joists, using ...

Re: Changed Title: Is the CD-26 seaworthy?

On this site and elsewhere, at least three CD 26 owners with the outboard lazarette configuration have reported thorough dousings of the outboard in heavy following seas, well offshore. I have not had that much trouble but I can see how it is perfectly possible. And of course, water can easily slosh...
