Re: Northeast Fleet Cabin Fever Lunch - March 15, 2025
It has taken me a few days to report on the Cabin Fever Lunch. We had roughly 50 people in attendance! It was a great day and a chance to get together over lunch, re-connect with friends and make some new ones. Fleet Captain Dave Hemenway kicked us off with what's happening in the Northeast Fleet an...

Re: CD30 Keel Hole
From your description, it sure sounds like a garboard drain with the plug removed, although the location seems a little high up on the keel. Some boatyards tape the garboard drain plug to the propellor. I don't think Cape Dory installed garboard drains. It would have been done by a previous owner. D...

Our guest speakers for the Cabin Fever Lunch will be Jeremy and Erica Elwell who, among other things, sailed their CD28 Sparrow to Ireland. Come hear of their passage and their future plans as they return to Galway and resume their journey.
Keep those registrations coming!

Northeast Fleet Cabin Fever Lunch - March 15, 2025
The Cabin Fever Lunch is just over three weeks away! The Cabin Fever Lunch is an annual event of the Northeast Fleet held at Newick's Lobster House in Dover New Hampshire. It's an opportunity to get together in an informal setting and enjoy lunch together near the end of a long winter. There will be...

Re: Builder's Certificate?
Hi John. The process of sorting through this stuff has not yet begun. I have not seen these yet, but will at the Cabin Fever Lunch at Newick's Lobster House in Dover, New Hampshire on March 15th. This is real-time information and I know a lot of people will be interested. We don't yet have a plan fo...

Re: Builder's Certificate?
I have some new information thanks to a tip from our very own Jim Walsh. The original builder's certificates were indeed rescued from destruction. I have been told that there is some mouse damage from being stored in a barn and that they are currently in binders by boat series, but that not every bo...

Re: Builder's Certificate?
Hi Scott, I'm the current CDSOA Commodore, and if you sent a message through our "Contact Us" form, I did not receive it. I checked my Junk folder and there was nothing there. I'm not sure what happened but will look into it. CDSOA has quite a bit of information on various models of Cape D...

I saw your post on FB, too. Thanks for posting it here, where there is more opportunity for more detailed log posting like this. Enjoy your time there. Those of us with small boats admire what you are doing.

I wonder when they made the change to plastic frames. I'm fairly certain my 1974 CD25 had aluminum frames.

Re: History: Adding Storage to a CD 30 Power (2003)
Thanks for re-posting this even if it is from 2003. There a lot of great ideas here that we can all benefit from and start thinking creatively about where we may find spaces we didn't even know about.

Re: Cape Dory 30-36 Chainplates
I think a lot depends on the year of manufacture. My former CD30 had mild steel backing plates. After 40 years, they were still fine, because I and the former owner re-bedded stanchions and deck hardware regularly.

Re: Searching for a '24 Cape Dory Trawler
As Joe mentioned, the CD24 trawler is kind of a unicorn. The CD28 Cruiser is much more plentiful and can easily be single-handed. The wider side decks make going to the forepeak anchor locker safer. I know this wasn't your question, but the CD28 Cruiser model isn't exactly slumming it.

Re: Overheating
It happened again. This time the seaweed completely blocked the raw water intake hose so that there was no water flow coming out the tailpipe. It happened in the east end of the Isle Au Haut Thorofare where it gets shallow, for those who know where that is. We had to drop anchor and deal with it und...
