Belfast Boatyard

Merry Christmas
You may want to consider Belfast Boatyard in Belfast Maine. Belfast is located about half way up the coast not too far from Rockland and Camden. It is the yard I keep my 25 ft CD in. Nice people and a pleasure to do business with.

Word of caution on Bristol Bronze

I have had an ongoing issue with Bristol Bronze for over two years. I have involved a consumer advocate group, the Rhode Island Better Business Bureau, and the Fed's Postal Fraud service, to date Bristol Bronze is stonewalling.

Hood roller furling (LD)

Hello Everyone, Recently, I've stepped up, rather I stepped laterally from a '76 CD25 to a '81 CD25. The '81 CD has Hood double line Roller Furling, I believe it is the 705 Line Drive System (LD). The '76 CD had single line furling so I'm at a loss as to some aspects of the two line system. I have t...

On line outboard sales

Hello everyone, Wondering if anyone has had experience ordering o/bs online. I am looking at the 25" Nissan 6hp 4cycle. What is attractive about this specific model is that includes an alternator system, "at no cost" From all that has been written about the Nissan/Tohatsu 6hp 4cycle, ...

GitRot

Hi All,
I was wondering couldn't you use GitRot injected into small holes? Back in the dark ages of my youth many of the boats on the Chesapeake were 3/4 GitRot.

Bill

Refinishing Cetol

Hello All, Overall the bright work finished in Cetol is in good shape; however, there are some places where the finish has begun to wear off and a few places where the teak has turned silver. On these places do I need to sand down to bare wood or do I just reapply? How many coats do I need to apply?...

Apparently on the 1981 CD25 a manual bilge pump was an option that the original owner didn't purchase. Looking at some pictures of the cockpits of 3 CD 25s for sale - looks like two are on the port side close to the stern and one on the starboard. Not an overwhelming majority in either case. Another...

Original Placement of Whale Gusher

Hello All,
Wondering where the original "factory" installed Whale Gusher was positioned in the cockpit (Port or Starboard). Where was the thruhull located? Was it plastic or bronze?

Getting ready for fall projects

Thanks

Waterproof Glue recommendations

Hello everyone I have a scarf joint that is starting to come unglued. Wondering what type of glue you would recommend. Have used Gorilla Glue before (not on the boat) and was pleased with the results, however it expands as it sets so not sure that is right for this job. Thanks in advance William

We were recently with a couple, at anchor, who had some sort of large umbrella set up in the cockpit that was tied off on the lifelines. They inherited it from a previous owner so they were sketchy about it's origin. This was a marine design rather than your common variety patio umbrella. Worked rea...

Wax - recommendations

Hi All, I just got done using 3M's one step light compound and wax. It was enough of a job that I thought I would put a protective coat of straight wax over my handiwork, while its fresh and clean, to keep me from having to revisit the compound/wax job next year. Any recommendations? What about auto...

Zincs on outboards

Hello all, Have a question regarding sacrificial zincs on outboard motors. With my new CD25 I acquired a used 5 hp Nissan that need its zinc replaced. Here is my question: On my previous outboard I drilled thru the cavitation plate and screwed a set of zinc rudder buttons (around $3.00 a set) one to...

Star brite Fiberglass Color Restorer and deck non-skids

Hello All,
Have never used the product. Was planning to use it on the hull, but was wondering if I use it on the deck non-skids will it make them slippery? They are quite oxidized and could use some "prettying up."

Thanks

What do you think?

Hello Everyone, When I bought Sweet Journey (CD25) the last owner included a list of suggestion that sailing friends of his had given him. One included bottom painting. What do you think: 1. Clean the bottom with Mineral Spirits 2. Paint the bottom with one light coat of bottom to which you have add...
