Re: Wet bilge on typhoon
i have posted before somewhere about the fact that I got water in the bilge in my '76 Ty for a few years and could not find the leak. One day i shined a bright flashlight on the inside of the hull where the port thru-hull for the one cockpit drain came thru. it was wet with a very slow leak. that fa...

Re: Typhoon rigging
my '76 Ty came with a track on the mast including a car with a ring for the pole and the tang above the jib halyard exit up the mast, but that was it. i opted for an asymmetrical spinnaker and two turning blocks on the outer edges of the aft deck to direct the sheets to the genoa winches. easy peezy...

Re: Few questions on Typhoon
that bolt snubs the tiller fitting to the shaft. If it is secured properly you have to remove it to remove the fitting. if the bolt is not tightened down the fitting will spin/move on the shaft unless things are corroded enough between the inside of the fitting and the rudder shaft. if you have the ...

Re: Tips for snaking cockpit drains on a typhoon?
i used a garden hose with 50# water pressure in conjunction with a length of spiral lawn mower throttle cable slightly longer than the total length of the drain hose and thru-hull plus enough to hold onto while working back and forth thru drain. if you still have gate valves make sure they are all t...

Re: Few questions on Typhoon
on my '76 weekender there was no pin but rather a bolt that locked the tiller cap onto the rudder shaft. hard to tell from here but it looks as tho the threaded hole for the bolt may be a bit worn.
can't help otherwise as i sold my boat two years ago.

Re: Cape Dory Typhoon help with leak
i have addressed this in previous posts and you may want to do a search for them. I had the same issues as you until four years ago. my Typhoon was taking on water when i launched and i gave it a week of monitoring to see if it stopped. the water was slowly seeping in the thru-hull for the cockpit s...

Re: Battery size to run a small auto bilge pump
FWIW I used a 5W solar panel in combination with a regular car battery for years to power a bilge pump on my typhoon. if you are looking to go small i imagine 3W with a small tractor/motorcycle battery would suffice.

Re: Standing Rigging-Replacing a Lost Part Help!
west marine had them when i needed replacements for my typhoon. these are larger but as i remember they had larger ones also.
most of the marine supply stores should have them also - defender, hamilton, jamestown, etc.

Re: Ramp Launching New Owner
if you have a jackstand with wheel on the trailer tongue you may want to leave that in the down/vertical position if there is much flexing of the extension and the ground is smooth enough just to add a bit of support.

Re: Hurricane Season 2022
Best of luck to you John, and everyone in IAN's path. We are in Vero Beach, FL on the east coast and experienced 50 mph gusts and 5" of rain. When you look at a map of FL and see how far we are from Ft. Myers it pretty much tells you how big IAN was when it hit the gulf coast.

Re: Typhoon Tiller Extension
depending upon the style and length you are looking for it is easy to make an efficient one as i did. i did not want one too long so i opted to make one out of wood. i used a one inch dowel and a round knob about an inch and a half in diameter. its been a long time ago and i do not remember where i ...

Re: Your Opinion? Embarking on a Typhoon Project
when i bought mine in '90, it was full of rain water to the cabin sole. upon inspection i discovered the hull below the water line had extensive small blistering (pox) which required gelcoat removal followed by epoxy coating and barrier coats. negotiated the price down for that reason. the cabin cus...
