Re: Propeller shaft friction
Tim, I ordered a new Johnson Duramax Cutless Bearing and I will be pulling out the Morse Blackfish. Although the Morse is new, something isn’t right and I don’t know what it is at this point. Perhaps its a swollen bearing (seems unlikely but it does happen). Maybe it’s binding internally somehow, bu...

Re: Propeller shaft friction
Replacing the propeller shaft while in the water may not have been the smartest thing. I was surprised at how easily it went. My diver friend pulled out the old shaft (I had the transmission coupler removed) and I inserted the new shaft (I had the propeller removed) right behind it. There was barely...

Re: Propeller shaft friction
Thanks Tim. Doing a quick internet search there are some instances of shaft bearings swelling, if they are inferior brands. Mine is a new Morse Blackfish as identified in the owners manual, so I assume it’s good quality. Since the shaft is disconnected from the transmission, it isn’t an alignment pr...

Propeller shaft friction
Maybe I’m over thinking this, but here goes. I had the boat hauled recently and changed out the cutless bearing with a new one. I decided to go with a new propeller and shaft, but I didn’t have it at the time so I reinstalled the old shaft and propeller. I then relaunched the boat. Today I finally g...

Bryce, if you want, shoot me your address and I’ll send you enough for a port light. Then you can decide if it works better for you. -david

Re: Port Light Gaskets
I replaced all of mine with McMaster-Carr 8605K44 Ultra-Weather-Resistant EPDM Foam Cord, 1/2" Diameter, 100 Feet and haven’t had a leak yet. The hatches close just fine.
@mgphl52, I have some spare, if you need some.

Re: Fuel Filters for the Green Ogre (MD7A)
I also meant to ask if anyone has seen in any of the manuals, what the desired filter capacity is for the MD7A? I didn’t see where a desired micron filter size was specified in the manuals that I have.

Fuel Filters for the Green Ogre (MD7A)
Trying to keep the beast alive as long as possible, so I’ve been looking into primary and secondary fuel filters. I have the OEM Fram filter housing (Black with orange cap). I’ve been trying to figure out the best filter combination, without moving to a Racor or different set up. I can’t find any in...

Re: CD28 / Volvo MD7A propeller sizing
I think a 13x12 3-blade would work based on what I’ve found others to have, but I’m completely speculating. You won’t really know until you install it and see how it performs with your engine. It can be repitched though, if you find it’s too aggressive. Good find on eBay. I just spent a small fortun...

Re: MS / MSB Gear selection position
One reason that I wanted to know the correct position of the gear selector is so that I could make sure I ordered the correct propeller (left or right handed). So, I think I've convinced myself that the propeller should indeed be a left hand prop for the Volvo MD7A + MS + Walter V-drive. As far as I...

MS / MSB Gear selection position
For the Volvo MS/MSB, does anyone know what gear (forward or reverse) the transmission is in when the eccentric piston (#56) is forward, or astern?

Re: Pulling Out the Water Tanks
Nice. I pulled my water tanks too. I haven’t cleaned them yet, but I will before reinstalling. On my CD30, I’m going to only go with one tank on the port side and leave underneath the starboard side berth for storage, rather than a second tank.
