Prop

When I repowered last season, I had excellent luck with H & H propeller. They will ask for all sort of specs from you before recommending any prop. You'll need engine specs such as HP, etc. Boat hull speed, displacement, etc. They will match one specifically for your boat. I picked up 1 knot of ...

Volvo

My local Volvo dealer matched the price for a comparable Beta & Yanmar. I repowered my old CD 28 with a D-20 (18hp) last year. A D-10 may be adequate for your 27. It's worth a look. If the price is the same, you'll have better resale value. the new Volvos are unbelievably quiet & smooth. I p...

Dutch Harbor

Russel,

You've got the right place! I have my newly acquired Bristol 32 there for the winter. I'm going to have them Allgrip the hull.

Nice people! No idea on pricing. I suppose I could always ask!

Congratulations to Phil & Jodi Poresky

Phil & Jodi are the proud new owners of my beloved CD 28 hull #177 "Liberty".

They sail out of Buzzards Bay, so keep an eye out for them & wish them well!

Bristol 32

I owned a CD 28 for several years & now am in the process of restoring a Bristol 32. The CD 28 & 30 are similar. The Bristol 32 is no better or worse in my estimation. I have sailed them both. The CD came factory equipped with nicer hardware, such as the Spartan bronze portals, Bowmar hatch,...

I was very pleased with Doyle Sails in East Greewich, RI. I had a new set of cruising sails put on my CD28. She sailed like a new boat!

CD 28

Go with the CD 28! It has the diesel, real head, and large cockpit.

Take from a CD 28 owner.

CD 28 leaks

As a fellow CD 28 owner, I suspect it is probably the shaft seal. Remove the engine cover I lie over the engine with a flashlight. Follow the shaft wher it exits the engine out the back of the boat. There should only be an ocassional drip. Anything more than that requires adjusting the seal. One oth...

Sorry I missed you!

I'm sorry I missed you all! I just finished repowering my CD 28. Wasn't ready in time. Getting a late start this year (August 1st), but plan on making up for lost time!

If anyone is visiting RI waters this Summer or Fall, drop me a line.

MD-7A

My experience has been that parts have indeed become increasingly hard to get & expensive for the old MD-7A. Combine that with the unreliability with any engine of the age and I've decided to repower. I did end up buying a new Volvo. I figured if the old one lasted almost 30 years, what the heck!

foggers

I have also had good luck using a fogger. I think it was made by raid. Just button up the hatches & add a little water. Works great!

Good Question!

Randy,

Good question! I have no idea about the original prop's specs.

But if you or anyone of my fellow CDers are interested in the original prop or engine, contact me offline!

Thanks,

John
