Re: Mast wires
I lean towards John's thinking to minimizing mast wiring. Also, the slapping of wires inside the mast at anchor is annoying (I know that there are ways of dealing with this too). Having said that. I will still run one small cable for the white steaming light about halfway up the mast. I'm going to p...

Re: Car battery charger for marine batteries
Roberto, For your immediate predicament, your neighbor's automobile battery charger will probably not do any more harm to AGM batteries than a factory Yanmar alternator. If the automobile charger doesn't have an AGM setting, then use it for hour or two at a reasonable current (10 - 20 amps) until yo...

Re: Car battery charger for marine batteries
I had deleted my post when I realized that your boat was out of the water. Maine Sail's article, http://www.pbase.com/mainecruising/installing_a_marine_battery_charger warns of the dangers of stray current corrosion, Electric Shock Drowning (ESD), ect., when using a non-marine charger. Most the conc...

Re: Kiwigrip Color
I've been applying white KiwiGrip to most horizontal surfaces. I selected white to keep the surfaces (and interior) as comfortable as possible in summer. New applications of white KiwiGrip always appear whiter than older applications. I'm not sure if this is due to dust and dirt or just that the ini...

Re: Urgent. Need help on cape dory 28 chain plate.
Searching past discussions will bring up many posts about retrofitting chainplates. JD-MDR posted a picture of a G10 backing plate in his post from 5/21/17 ( http://www.capedory.org/board/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=35026&p=195550&hilit=g10#p195550 ): http://www.capedory.org/board/download/file....

Re: "Leoma" 30K update, auto pilot, windlass
Got some quotes for the auto pilot Its gonna be about $4000 by the time Its done. Lots of possibilities with $4000 in the kitty. For example, if you purchased a used Hydrovane windvane and connected a basic tiller pilot to it, then you would have the flexibility to steer by wind or compass. The Hyd...

Exercise caution when using PB Blaster in the vicinity of an engine.
It might damage engine/transmission seals.

Re: thickness of corecell for deck core
I used 3/8" Core-Cell for repairs of both the cockpit floor and deck. I don't know if it is the best, but it was easy to work with and produced good results. http://www.cruisersforum.com/attachments/gallery/4/5/5/9/0/dscn3320.jpg http://www.cruisersforum.com/attachments/gallery/4/5/5/9/0/gedc11...

Check out if there isn't something like this behind the panel. It may be wrapped in electrical tape.Rick wrote:...where is the common ground

Re: 30K " Leoma"
Having a 2" hole in the hull, stuffed with a plastic plug doesn't sit well with me. There are other alternatives, for example the knotstick for less than $50, http://www.knotstick.com/ I built a base for the compass to mount it externally. In this manner, I can remove it without leaving a gapin...

Re: CD 25 electrics
The previous owner must have had (2) 12 volt batteries connected in series. for charging purposes, but only one of the batteries was connected to your boat's electrical system. Workable. Not a bad idea, but you definitely need 2 batteries if you wish to use that charger. The above scenario is only ...

Re: Better AM/FM portable radio for the boat?
Roberto, yes I would buy it again. In fact, I would like to have the newer model with Bluetooth and NOAA alert. The water resistant design, clock, LED light and built in timer are all well suited to a boat. I use the radio everyday and I can't remember the last time that I replaced the batteries. Th...

Roberto, Sangean is a Taiwanese company. http://sg.sangean.com.tw/company/about_us.asp Although the battery compartment is designed for 2 D-Cells, one can always make use of AA to D-Cell adapters. Rechargeable AA batteries do an admirable job. http://www.letimahouse.com/564-large_default/eneloop-bat...

Re: Better AM/FM portable radio for the boat?
There is a GE branded radio called the Superadio III. I've owned a Superadio since 2002. It requires six (6) D-Cell Batteries, but they do last a very long time. While the reception is good, I found the analog controls to be cheap and have failed over time, making it difficult to retain tuning and ...

Re: 25 mast support imbed steel structure?
Here is an article on the mast steps used by Cape Dory in the 70s. It has pictures of the rectangular 5" x 2" mild steel used under the mast step. Although the pictures are from a 27, the mast step of the 25 is probably similar. http://www.sailfeed.com/2015/09/mast-step-repairs-with-the-te...
