buyer's broker etc

In theory a buyer's broker is supposed to be on the lookout for a boat that meets a specific buyer's interests/needs. As in an mls real estate transaction they are compensated with a share on the selling broker's commission. I had "current" pictures of the boat onthe Cape before heading ou...

BROKERS- !!!

Apologies for sort of hijacking this thread but I'm frustrated... In recent weeks I've called 3 brokers with specific questions about boats I was (key word) interested in, one of them I had looked at which is a story in itself. With that one the broker gave me an address on Cape Cod, almost 2 hours ...

thoughts.... The BE is early fibreglass version of Nat Herreshoff's legendary 12 1/2 (WL measurement). The 12 1/2 was originally designated The Buzzards Bay Boy's Boat - it was a trainer. It has gone on to achieve yacting immortality via restored originals, current production in the original wood or...

litter option

With last summer's addition of a Maine Coon kitten to the household zoo I decided to try the newer silica gel litters. same basic material that is used as a dessicant in shipping electronics etc It may well answer some of your concerns though availabiliy outside the US may continue to be a challenge...

survey

Most definitely any offer would be contingent on survey. My goal at this point is to avoid survey costs if there is an obvious problem going that could lead to water trouble. Since the water seems to be coming in via multiple screw fasteners in an area about 18 inches long in the same locationon bot...

CD25D deck construction

Hello all, I've looked at a 25D that has signs of water entering around the screws which pass through the toerail and fasten it to the deck. I realize it is not an insignificant job to remove, overdrill, fill, rebed and refasten the toerails. From the limited amount that I can see it appears that th...

another option

The best results I had with varnish on the teak on my Herreshoff S was Coma Berenice - very exspensive but held up better than anything else. Tried a bit of an experiment on the sliding hatch - stripped it down to bare wood and put on the requisite seven coats of CB and then did nothig to it for thr...

alternate source

If someone is looking for Herreshoff style blocks check with www.bronzeblocks.com Jim's product line is more limited than the other place but the qualty of his work is outstanding. I had redone my entire S boat with his blocks. The presence of his material was a selling point when the boat sold to a...

I've never had direct dealings with Roger but know of several folks doing Herreshoff restorations who have. Your experience is not unique. Slow to ship, material does not perform/last and he has been reluctant to honor any sort of warranty.

suggestion

If it is going to be in Narragansett Bay you might want to consider the Herreshoff Marine Museum in Bristol as a host location. Dockage, moorings, nice waterfront area for meals - they have a tent. Easy walk into town and much lower key atmosphere than Newport.

Congratulations

As someone who has sailed a 28 foot, currently 80 year old, classic for many years there is very little that can match the pleasure of being able to sail off and on the mooring. It's so much more peaceful - once you get the hang of it you'll wish you could leave the OB ashore pemanently. It all come...

You may have noticed the post I made a few day back looking for general price ranges for a 25D mainsail. In addition to the feedback I got here I also filed a quote request at www.sailquote.com and have received prices from 5 lofts that subscribe to the service. Took me only a few minutes to fill ou...
