RE: Rocna??

Thank you Main Sail. That is what I assumed based on the spec sheet from Rocna. It seemed to me the 22lb Rocna was equivalent to a 35 CQR as far as holding abilities. I realize there is a lot to be said for under-sizing your anchor and dealing with sleepless nights, but having the equivalent to the ...

Rocna???

I've been considering purchasing a new anchor and the Rocna sounds like the one. Does anyone have any experience with these anchors? My cd30 has a 25lb. inadequate wannabe CQR and I was wondering if the 22lb. Rocna would be sufficient vs stepping up to the 33lb Rocna. My concern with stepping up to ...

Teak Cockpit Grate

As a winter project I going to attempt to build a cockpit grate for Halia. Has anyone built one before and if so, do you know of a good source on some plans or information on the proper construction methods? Does anyone have any pics? I appreciate any and all feedback. Dave Breault

Thanks in advance!

Algea-x system

Has anyone out there had any experience with the Algea-x system. My fuel is bad and short of removing the tank and scrubbing it, I discovered that the Algea-X system may be a solution. I called Algea-X and they really stand by their products.

Spars...Paint or not to paint

I have a dilemma that I've been struggling with. The spars on my boat are original unpainted anodized aluminum. Although not terribly bad, the the spars are beginning to oxidize. I thought about painting or just apply a polish if there is such a thing to slow the oxidation. Is there such as product?...

Would this help??

I read this post with interest as I am getting ready to install a new head. If I were to install a vented loop high above the waterline, on the water intake of the head, would this be a fix to this potential tragedy?

Wow - Good thing you caught this when you did!

So. CAl Bottom Paint Suggestions??

Well the day is finally here! I've put many, many hours of work into her, the list of things too long to mention here, and she is finally going into the water. The bottom has been stripped and I am about to put on 4 coats of Interprotect 2000 on her bare bottom. My question...if there are any So. Ca...

to summarize...

Am I correct in assuming if I simply disable the WAAS feature on my new Garmin 72, it should work fine other than not being as accurate. I read in this post the accuracy is merely a 2' difference. I think I could work with that... Since the "72" is new to me I have not loaded any waypoints...

While we're on the subject...

My CD30 has a permanent mounted ladder located on the transom. I was wondering has anyone attempted to add teak to the treads for barefoot comfort? I think if I were to screw some wood into the stainless steel it may compromise the strength of the tread. Your thoughts...

Just got a return call from Whale.

I too am looking to replace the old Gusher 8 and got some interesting info. The guy told me the replacement pump for the Gusher 8 is the Gusher Urchin, sold at Defender, as well as, West Marine. The Urchin comes in three different models. the one for the thru-deck(bulkhead) installation is part # BP...

Replacement Head

The reason for me wanting to replace the HF is the pump has a crack in it and leaks some nasty stuff. If you factor in the cost of the new pump along with the rebuild kit, to me it makes sense to pay the $239.00 for a whole new unit. As far as the discharge located in the wet locker behind the head,...

Question regarding a new head.

I need to replace the Groco HF head in my cd30. I think I'm going to replace with the same. Does anyone have any bad experiences with the Groco HF? Should I consider another head? I like the HF because its a good fit and good price, but since this boat is new to me I have not had a chance to see how...

Glad to be part of this group!

I can't tell you how glad this group is here. I am the new owner of Halia (Hawaiian name meaning "In Memory Of", the1981 CD 30c #195, (formally Hunk Dory). I purchased her in November. I live in So. Cal. but born and raised on Cape Cod. Sailing was a way of life in my family...Lots of grea...
