Re: 1980 Cape Dory 30C Mainsheet Traveler Car

Those pin stops are Nicro Fico (NF 586X), which closed shop years ago. It’s rumored that a Ronstan series 22 traveler car stop will fit the Nicro Fico track but that is just a rumor, I’ve never tried the fit personally.

Wow…nice work. I’m sure it’ll look fantastic when completed. Thanks for documenting so others can benefit from your project. Leoma must be happy!

It may appear chaotic but at least you can disassemble and reassemble with relative ease. Stick built has its benefits. Nice Birds Eye maple on that cabinet door.

Very interesting, thanks for posting. It will be interesting to keep abreast of your work and see the solutions an owner based in the Netherlands decides to incorporate. Good luck!

Re: cutting a new hatch in sailboat

I’m confident nothing will warp. Just cross your fingers that you don’t discover that the balsa sandwiched between the layers of glass which form your cockpit sole isn’t water saturated. Then you will have a much larger job on your hands and the installation of an access hatch will seem a simple task.

John Stone is a frequent contributor and has completed a full refurbishment and modification of his CD 36 Far Reach. This is a link to his site as relates to mast and rigging but he has also posted numerous updates here.

Re: NEPENTHE

Well that's a shame. $15k for a CD 36 without a rig is still a great deal for someone who wants a highly capable boat but is short of immediate funds. I bet it could be had for a lot less if it's slated for the crusher. There is a guy with a website explaining how to rebuild a CD 36 into a voyaging...

Re: Overnight to Long Island and the iSailGPS app

You are correct, it was wonderful sailing weather. I sailed from Noank to Block Island the same day. I experienced WNW winds from 12 to 18 knots. I had the tide with me so it was choppy but three feet at most in Block Island Sound.

Re: Companionway Vent using Port Visor

Great airflow solution. You are correct. Cutting angled slots in a dropboard are nearly useless for airflow. I did that on a previous boat decades ago, it looked neat but the airflow was minuscule and driven rain still entered the companionway. Thanks for sharing.

Re: dockline length

The docklines which remain at my slip are 25 footers since they remain in place, I just slip the loop onto my cleats and no adjustment is required upon arrival or departure. The docklines I keep aboard “just in case” are 35 footers as you never know how the pilings or slips will be arranged. The ext...

Re: Hatch Gaskets for CD 330

When I replaced the gaskets I used the Bowmar gasket material as it had a stripe of contact cement which made installation fast and simple. The only alternative is to order EPDM cord stock from McMaster-Carr. If you go that route you have to apply your own contact cement to both surfaces prior to in...

Re: Night on a CD 22

Tie your halyards off with a shock cord to minimize, or ideally, eliminate them rapping against the mast. The “twanging” sound likely was caused by the topping lift touching the back stay but that is a guess on my part. Just take the slack out of your topping lift to eliminate that. When it comes to...
