What Winches to get? BOGO West Marine sale

Post by Pembquist »

I am tempted to replace the 2 jib winches on my CD28 with self tailers. I'm not sure how to pick out a replacement. Existing winches are Merriman Holbrook 20 and are about 4" in diameter. The sale is on EVO and Ocean winches. Anyone been down this road?

I’m guessing that your CD28 has a single headsail. If you still have the club footed headsail I’d go with a self tailing #16. If you have an overlapping headsail I’d go with the self tailing two speed #30. I have the Ocean Series bronze self trailers and they are excellent. There’s really nothing wrong with the chrome plated bronze or the aluminum winches. The buy-one-get-one sale is an excellent opportunity to step up.
Be sure to measure your winch bases to ensure a decent fit for your application.
