Fiddles For CD30 Under Settee Lockers

Post by jbenagh »

I've been trying to move heavy items low and centered. On my CD30, the salon lockers under the settees are an ideal spot for the toolbox and canned drinks. But the doors open when heeling sometimes. So I made some fiddles to help take the force from those when heeling. Here's some pictures.
View when installed. The center fiddle is removable and can be removed/installed with lockers filled.

Here's what it looks inside the locker (I had this open to fix the water tank). The fiddle could be taller or could be stiffened with an additional layer inside the cleats.

Here's the pieces making up the cleats for the fiddle, 3/8in marine ply, attached with #10x1 self-tapping screws. The screws take nearly no load, the load presses the fiddle against the inside of the locker.

I like those a lot. I load a lot of canned goods for long trips and I’ve experienced opening the hatch and the contents spilling out. That’s not always entertaining. This solution looks cheap and easy. Now I have a new spring project.
