Re: Intro and CD27/Chesapeake question
I've been sailing on the Chesapeake with a 25 CD and a 36CD for the last 35 + years and light air is common, but so is heavy air. A decent sail combination will solve your problems of various wind conditions and the full keel and weight will carry you through the typical short chop that develops on ...

Re: CD25 owner ... has empty water tank ... and full bilge.
Before cutting out the tank , I would pull the tank to find the cause of the leak. If the tank is cracked you can actually plastic weld the crack and continue to use the tank. That is what I did on my CD36 15 years ago and it is holding fine. I ordered the welding kit from a mail order supply house.

Re: CD36 Mainsheet traveller
I replaced the traveler within a few years of purchasing the boat, because adjusting the twist was impossible after the tack was done . I tried moving the pegs prior to the tack, but that was either impossible if windward or a pure guess is leeward. I ended up leaving the traveler amidships often.

Re: How do people manage there affairs while cruising?
Having your own computer or tablet allows you to use the library, coffee shop etc. even after hours. We have sat on many a doorstep using a wifi signal from a closed building since most places leave their router on 24 hours. With personal Quicken and a computer you can write checks and send them ele...

Re: Jacklines
go with the flat tubular webbing and make sure it runs from cockpit to bow in an unbroken line so that you don't have to hook and unhook as you move forward. I don't have permanent setup, since I only use it offshore.

After reading your post, I had to reply with my offer of condolences for the loss of an old friend. Those of us who are smitten by the CD and sailing bug can and do appreciate the loss and wish you the best.

Re: Peek-a-Boo Shutters
I've had the Peek-a-boo curtains on Shana for about seven years and we love them. One problem to be aware of is the plastic poppits and o-rings that they slide on do get sun damaged and must be replaced. The company will replace them at no cost, but I would get a few to keep on board as spares they ...

Re: Bottom & Boot Top Paint
Epifanes Dado Brown is pretty close to the original for the boot stripe but it has been impossible to get brown bottom paint in the last few years. I was told by a paint manufacturer that mixing red and black will give an equivalent brown bottom paint, but I have not tried it yet.

The boat under sail is my boat Shana and I don't know where that picture was taken or by whom. The background appears to be somewhere in Maine. Shana is a 1986 36'CD

Chatham MA local knowledge
The kids and grandkids are staying at Wequasset and the closest harbor is Stage Harbor in Chatham. I need some local knowledge as to shoaling and availability of anchoring or mooring rental for a few days at the end of July for a 36' sailboat with a 5' draft.
Any help is appreciated.

Re: Commisioning mishap
Was your mishap a one bouncer or a two bouncer? Mine is usually a two bouncer which gives you the impression that you can catch the item before it goes overboard, but of course it is Murphy's way of teasing you and it is always just out of my reach.

Re: Laptop for Onboard Navigation (as a backup)
The waters of the Chesapeake are not that difficult, so charts, compass and a handbearing compass are all that are needed, but whatever makes you comfortable is the right way to go. On the bay a GPS is not necessary, but will give the beginner a sense of security. As a back up nav system you are prob...

Re: Dodger/Bimini info for CD36
We went the opposite way and made a bigger Bimini Our dodger is about the same size as yours but our Bimini sits about a foot forward of the boom end. From your photos it appears that your boom could be raised so that it is square with the mast and that would give you the room to increase the Bimini...
