Re: Cd 28 halyards

Hi Ben; The owners manual lists 7/16" x 72' for the main halyard. The groove in the sheave is for the old wire to rope halyards that were once popular. The wire didn't stretch as much as the fiber line, but the wire/rope lines were expensive, and developed "meathooks" that were hard o...

Re: New to the world of caulking. LF advice

Hi:

Maine Sail, a frequent contributor to this site, has an excellent tutorial on bedding components to hulls.
Here's the link: http://www.pbase.com/mainecruising/rebedding_hardware

Re: TY Senior Sails

Hi Woody: 1. I recommend you keep the slugs on your new mainsail. A boltrope main falls all over the deck when dropped, and is a royal pain to flake on the boom, especially if your single handed. 2. No. Most sailmakers, and many CD'rs on this board, recommend a loose footed sail with full battens on...

Furler Repair (Edited)

Hi Pete: I just installed a Code 0 , Mk I on my boat. The very old Mk I foils used roll pins. Roll pin foil replacement parts are no longer listed by Harken. You may have the newer later Mark type foil. If you do, you can replace the one bent foil. If you have roll pin foils, you'll probably need to...

SF Sailing

Hi Tim:
My C&C 27 was sailed in SF bay by the PO. He almost always used a 90% jib, which, like using the 80% on your Ariel, seemed right for the conditions.

Price gouging?

Something to consider:

Heat shrink butt connectors, 22-18 AWG, pkg. 25:
Evil Empire: $29.99 Ace Hardware: $14.99

#8 x 1" Flat head Phillips wood screw:
Evil Empire: $.50 Ace Hardware: $0.10

Gee, How can I get my Ace store to carry Harken prodlucts?

Gone Over to the Dark Side

Well gang, after twenty-six years of Cape Dory ownership of three CD's along the way, I've finally gone over to the dark side. My creaky joints have been defeated by all that lovely Cape Dory teak. Last Wednesday, I became the official owner of a practically teak free C&C 27, which I won't have ...

Fully battened Main

Hi Debbie: When you're motor sailing, and let's face it, it's something we all do more than we'd like, a full battened main will ride quietly and not flog, a real benefit. Believe it or not, my CD-28 came with a fully battened working jib(!) THAT I would not recommend. Regards, Tony (not flogging in...
