Re: unstepping mast on CD 31 - question

If you cut your radar cable, you got troubles. You will need a knowledgeable person to reconnect them

Re: Usefulness of Vane self steering

I sail a CD 33 with an Autohelm and a monitor windvane. I love both. They each have a place. The Monitor takes time to set up and adjust. I don,t even consider using it unless I will be on the same course for at least an hour. The Autohelm is perfect for motoring and for short breaks from steering s...

Surveyor, Penobscot Maine

Hi all,

My insurance company has decided that "Carol Anne" needs a survey this year. Can anyone recommend a Surveyor in the Eastern Penobscot Bay area?

Thanks,

I buiIt a teak battery box and secured it to the cabin sole at the bottom of the companion way. I cut off the companionway ladder and the battery box now is the bottom step.

Hi Cathy, Don't have any pictures of the Reflectrix handy, but could take some this week-end if it will help. I will also paste a link with some information about the product. There really is no magic installation. The stuff is used as a housewrap. It reflects heat and cold. It is simply 2 sheets of...

16 Days at Sea and Beer Still Cold

b We recently returned from a sixteen day cruise in Maine, with 1 block and two bags of ice on the hottest, most humid and sunniest two weeks this summer. My husband was very impressed with my provisioning skills and thought I should write my hard won provisioning tips on the Cape Dory board, so her...

I have the same engine. maximum RPM for me is 3000 and engine temp is 160 at that RPM. I usually cruise at 22-2400 making around 5+ knots. If you think that this is linkage issue, advance to full throttle manually at the engine and see what you get

I started this thread last fall. Since then, I attended the Hanson Marine Engine seminar in Marblehead-something that I would highly recommend. They sold me a Jabsco Hand pump which worked like a charm. Removed the old oil this spring in about 60 seconds! I have considered the option of a hose conne...

I changed my impeller last week-end and put the raw water hose in a bucket. Started the engine and no water in the exhaust. I noticed that two screws on the cover plate were not completely seated. I was able to remove some debris from the bottom of the screw holes with an awl, then screwed a tap int...

I agree that the Cape Dory underbody is very unlikely to snag pot warp. I have been sailing Maine waters day and night for 30 years and have only been caught twice. Both times were in daylight and in rivers with swift ebb currents running-- once in the Piscataqua and once in the Damariscotta. I beli...

I have Duralite Solar Panels. They are semi-rigid but can be bent enough to conform to the coach roof. No problems stepping on them. They also protect the deck when I drop winch handles. Have used for 5 years with no problems

It always fascinates me how these threads can morph. It is also fascinating how much energy goes into any thread which begins with topics of self defense or anchoring.

It's a little known fact, but worth mentioning--Cape Dory did manufacture a few pocket destroyers. They were dogs to windward and never really caught on.
