fuel filter

If you are talking about the primary fuel filter on the engine block it is necessary on my engine to remove both fuel lines from the filter and loosen the nuts on the far end of these lines. Also on my engine it is necessary to remove the bracket that the filter is attached to. Charlie

Because of possible transient voltages generated while starting the engine it may be best to have all sensitive marine electronics off during the start. For this reason it may be best to have the auto-pilot connected to an accessary switch on the dc panel. Just a thought and what I did. Cheers, Char...

Hello Chuck K. A couple of years ago I had about the same problem with my 1gm and went through all you are going through and more. There were two main problems: The 1gm develops rated horsepower at 3400 rpm and my engine tach would never indicate more than 2800 rpm. The engine also had the same surg...

Hughesw: Those hoses have wire in them and a blade won't do it. I used a hacksaw. The replacement of the hose turned out for me to be very difficult. This hose has an "S" shape. The new hose was so stiff and wants to kink. Save the old hose pieces to get an accurate length. The next time I...

BillyO. Is it the teak plate surrounding the tiller shaft you suspect? I don't think water can get to the bilge from there. Having said that, that teak plate is a sore spot for Cape Dories and if it leaks can cause a "spongy" cockpit floor. I took it loose on my ship, dug out the soft bals...

Lessons Learned

Thank you Evergreen for the good information. I've been wondering why my trailer was making funny noises in the early part of the trip. As you say i'll block it from now on. Cheers, Charlie.

Craig, Champion Trailer Co. recommends only bias ply tires and not radials for trailers though this might not be the problem in your case. See Champion's web sight for the reasons. Cheers, Charlie

Chris, perhaps you can do some checks but you will need a voltmeter but not necessarily an expensive one. You may already have one or they are available at radio shack or others. So with this voltmeter, black lead on the engine block and red lead to the big red wire at the starter you should have ap...
