FRP instead of Marine Ply?
An interesting thing happened this year on launch. The engine intake thru-hull weeped a little, a couple of drops an hour at only one spot, from between the hull and the 3/4" marine ply backing plate. At first I was concerned. But then it occurred to me that, like a wooden boat the plate would ...

I have the same liner type installation in that area
but they left it totally open. I'd probably pull it out and let it breath in there. And if it is asbestos, can't it be removed safely? gloves, mask, heavy duty Ziploc bags.

I'm taking it all off this year
After 12 years of maintaining, patching and feathering the Armada finish it's time. I'm considering a Milwaukee heat gun. I assumed I'd be pushing a putty knife for most of it. Thanks for the heads up. I'll try both for sure now. I'm leaning towards varnish this time and maybe a compromise with Arma...

What size?
Russel:
Which Rocna did you get? the 20kg/44lbs?
I'll be adding a second bow anchor eventually and your experience convinces me it should be the Rocna.
Thanks:

I use a plain pine 6' 4X4
The primary goal is to get the mooring chain into the mud so it doesn't wear. Just hanging there causes wear. Secondly the ball can be damaged by ice. The 4X4 is connected to a 14 foot length of galvanized chain. I drilled a one inch hole through the bottom of the stick and loop the chain through an...

Spartite
Len: I pull my mast every year. Our yard allows us to rent a crane and we'll do anywhere from 8 - 18 boats in a morning. So I have seen it all. Spar tite is a great upgrade. It helps keep water out and it's nice and quiet. Anyone who has done it likes it. But boy have we had some fights between cran...

One of the top ten upgrades
It's got to be one of the best upgrades I've ever done. What a dream to set and take down. I would never have a gennaker without it. On my old Alberg 35 I even put them on my spinnakers.

We'll be there
Colleens college is having their family weekend but she'd rather be home this weekend and it's going to be gorgeous. October sailing in the northeast, wow. If anybody would like to go for a sail on Saturday or Sunday, and of course join in the potluck dinner, give us call. <a href="http://www.j...

Crew Backed Out
I'm writing on Victoria's behalf. She had someone lined up but they had to cancel. She's in Atlantic Highlands and would still love to have help getting Malie down the coast even if you can only help for a day, like Hook to AC or AC to Cape May etc. Nice weather coming up this week! She will cover a...
