How do you divide the world?

Re: Dividing the World
I have had reasonable success using the Equator, but don't for a moment think I'm anti-International Date Line..Neil Gordon wrote:As mentioned in another thread:

Re: Dividing the World
The Equator divides the world in to "top" and "bottom," while the Date Line divides the world into "today" and "tomorrow" (or "today" and "yesterday," depending on your point of view). Those are two totally different concepts, which I never really thought about (probably for good reason).kerrydeare wrote:I have had reasonable success using the Equator, but don't for a moment think I'm anti-International Date Line..

3 Pages at least
In the fairly short time that I have been following this board I have noticed that every year, about the time that boats start coming out of the water, a thread will begin over nothing, and that apparently will go until the boats go back in the water in the spring.
That is why I would divide at least the Cape Dory world into two groups; a group from down south who keep their boats in the water all year, for whom November means the end of hurricane season and the best of sailing times, who have never heard of a garboard plug (sic?) and who can't imagine why anyone would drill a hole in the bilge to let water out, who can't do brightwork in the summer because the varnish will boil in the can; and the group from the frozen north who we envy when we hear about cruising the coast of Maine in the middle of summer, who don't have to add in a layer of barnacles and oysters when calculating draft, and who can find ginger beer in the local super market.
Divisions aside, we are looking forward to having both groups together in Texas next month. We will bring the rum and the limes (we grow our own down here) and you bring the ginger beer and we should have everything we need.
But then there are those who think that you need lime for a proper Dark & Stormy and those who don't....

I definitely am a sans limer!
And Steve, I'll see you in a couple of weeks. I am bringing a truck load of Goslings for some of the yankees who dont want to carry it on the plane!

until spring, all we have is this for entertainment
For the world of brightwork:
Varnish v. cetol
teak oil v. hard finish
nothing v. anything else
For the mildly obscene (that is for those whose sensiblities trend in that direction, which is perhaps another expression of a dichotomous world):
hard dinghy v. inflatable
seacock v. ball valve![Rolling Eyes ](./images/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif)
