Re: Coffeeholic

I have a 500w hotpot and a 1000w black-and-decker inverter that I bought for $49, plus another $15 for the remote inverter switch. The combination works great for my french press in the morning. I haven't kept this blog up for a long time, but details are here: http://maintenance.mariner2.net/2009/0...

Also, if you're doing it right, it won't take long. Mine takes 5 minutes max, probably more like 2 minutes, and it's a bigger engine.

Hi David, Not sure if this will be helpful, but the first time I tried to bleed the fuel lines, I had the same experience as you. Turned out I was just not pushing the lever through the whole range, so I wasn't pumping anything at all... I have to push the lever down harder than I realized; don't ju...

bad links

Hi Raymond,
I'd love to see the pictures, but the links don't seem to work -- I get a message saying the picture was moved or deleted, or I get a message asking me to log in to the account. Can you check the photobucket album to make sure it's public?

Thanks,
Joe

CD25

Ah, yes, sorry -- I didn't read carefully enough about the boat model, just saw Typhoon in your profile.

Anyway, my concern is same as CruiseAlong's -- potential for back stream of odor or waste into the bilge.

Unusual plumbing

Hi Sea Hunt, Stinkpotter here -- I have a CD 28 Trawler. I don't really know anything about the typical plumbing configuration of a typhoon, but your post caught my attention because I'm currently replacing sanitation hoses. On our trawler, waste goes directly from the head to the tank. From the tan...

Order a screen protector

I'm still on the whole very happy with the 478 as well. I don't use the weather option, but I'm thinking of adding sonar module to it soon. I strongly recommend getting a screen protector (e.g., InvisibleShield) for it immediately. I scratched up my screen a bit, which makes it a little harder to re...

Looking forward to it

I'm planning to be there, and I'm quite excited to see a few more CD28 trawlers, and share ideas with other owners. I had the privilege of seeing Mark's "Brandywine" recently -- she's quite a vessel!

If a 24 joins us, I'll be sure to ask for an email address and pass it along.

I replaced the 20-year-old Groco HF on my CD28 trawler when I bought the boat 2 years ago. It needed rebuilding, and it was new to me, so I just decided to swap it out. The new HF seems better built than then old, with a bronze base and sturdier T-shaped handle. I expected it to be a piece of cake s...

Florida Marine Tanks and other options

Florida Marine Tanks moved their shop to NC, apparently. I spoke to them yesterday as I was looking for windshield bedding and exterior gasket. They can no longer provide either of those, but might still be worth a call for frames. Another CD owner pointed me to American Marine -- maybe they can hel...

Stinkpotter

LOL, no offense taken. I realize this board is mainly inhabited by sailors, but I love Cape Dorys and just can't stay away! Someday I'll probably own a Cape Dory sailboat as well.

No wax?

I've read in other places that waxing the transom will worsen the soot problem, and that you should leave it unwaxed.

I have not tried that personally. I waxed and coated with teflon, and still collect quite a bit of soot over time.

Excellent service from Pompanette

I did mine on our 28 (power). Our hatch was probably different than yours, but if you have any trouble identifying the gasket you need, call Pompanette (who makes Bomar). They were simply outstanding in helping me figure out what hatch model I have and what part(s) I needed. They took several calls ...

me too

My Cape Dory 28 (power) has about a million of them. No, make that a billion. Same conclusion from the surveyor, cosmetic only.
