painting teak

I have a nice CD-27 that I like very much, however keeping up with the teak is getting to be too much for me. I was trying to think of a less labor intensive of protecting the teak before it is sanded away and needs to be replaced. Does anyone have any suggestions? I was thinking of painting the tri...

dipstick problem

I glued a small mirror in the engine compartment at a location where I can see the dipstick hole, it sure simplifies reinserting the dipstick.

zincs

A diver can change the zincs while the boat is in the water probably cheaper than hauling the boat. About the sink seacock, if it is in the open position take out the screws on the side that drain the seacock body ( roundhead 10/24 ones) and try to get penetrating lube in there as well around the en...

cockpit locker teak trim leaks

I'm sure this has been discussed before but I can't find the topic in the archives. Both of my cockpit lockers leak under the teak trim that keeps water out of the locker. I tried to take them loose but they seem to be glued on with 5200 and I can't budge them without destroying them. Any one have w...

Heres to teachers

Among other things teachers have done for me is to introduce me to sailing. I had always messed around boats, canoes and swimming but had never been in a sailboat. In high school my homeroom teacher one day ask if anyone wanted to go sailing with him that weekend. No knowledge of sailing was require...

Lots of wind

One of my best remembered sailing days was on Lake Pontchartrain. My daughter and I were going sailing after a frontal passage, winds 35-45 kts. When we left the protected slip we didn't realize how bad the conditions were. We arrived at the end of the tchfuncta river and decided the conditions were...

Winter blues

I have the opposite problem. We keep Whisper, our CD-27 in south Florida Where we sail her in the winter. Come June first we must have her stored at the boatyard on the hard and tied down for the hurricane season. I try to get her in the water by December first ready for the winter sailing season. W...

CD-27 prop

I have a '83 CD-27 with the Westerbeke 13 engine in it and a 12 RH 11 prop. I haven't had ocassion to use max power until the other day. The engine is rated at 3600 rpm and I was surprised to get almost 4000 rpm. To me that indicates I need more pitch. Does anyone with the same engine know what prop...

CD-25

We purchases a CD-25 in 79 and just loved her. She made several passages across Lake Michigan and quite a few overnights along the lake, all with my wife and two kids, except one. Question? How many people can a CD-25 sleep. One memoral overnight involved another family of four. Total eight people. ...

garboard drain

At the suggestion of Indian town Marina in Florida I installed a garboard drain in my CD-27 WHISPER this year. Their thought was if the wind and rain from a hurricane or other wet windy storm hit the boat in just the right direction a normally dry boat could accumulate enough water to make the boat ...

CD-25D

My family purchased an '82 CD-25D. It is a great boat. My wife and I and two teenagers cruised Lake Michigan and southern Canada for 6 weeks. We had a great cruise. We found several places where we could put the bow on the beach and step ashore. All this in a trailer boat. Wayne Brown
