A few of the old plastic screens on my CD27 have bit the dust. While the bronze ones out there are very nice, I can't justify that price tag for a boat I'm likely selling at the end of the season. Does anyone know of a vendor selling the plastic ones?
Appreciate it,

Location options
Apologies for a slightly random posting. If the mods think this should be located elsewhere, I'm happy to move it around. Wife and I moved to Chattanooga a few years ago, and eventually the CD27 came along too. Since then I've learned that 1) The quality of sailing(and supporting services) here is l...

Re: Tips for learning to dock single handed
Things that would help the hive mind here would be 1) Do you have a mid-ship cleat(my 27 does not) 2) What's your prop walk like in reverse, both strength and direction. Not that I'm terribly skilled at single-handed docking, but the thing that helped me the most was doing a fair amount of not-singl...

Re: Fuel quality question
All's well that ends well - 5 gals of fresh fuel went in the tank, and 4.5 hrs of motorsailing at a 5 kts delivered the boat to where it should be. As an aside, it reassuring being in a Cape Dory when the mostly calm morning turned to a gusty 25 kts on the lake. Don't expect to have surfable followi...

And, scene. I'll do a write up over on the projects board, but this was pretty straight forward.

Re: Fuel quality question
Serious reply - Thanks everyone, appreciated. Probably going to just siphon most of of it out, use and top it off with some fresh stuff. Whatever is in the lines and filter will get burned off and away we go. Sarcastic reply - Anyone else with an original CD27 fuel tank see these "Just inspect ...

Fuel quality question
The boat - CD27 with a 1978 Yanmar YSM8 The condition - About 3+ gallons of fuel last put in the tank about 18 months ago and used sparingly in the past, oh, 20 months or so. The question - I have a 25 mile motor up the Tennessee River to only place that does bottom paint. Is adding a bunch of clean...

Man if y'all had let me know you were in town I could have at least provided some of the good local spirits for the meeting.

Re: CD27- Lewmar bronze ST winches
Pair of Lewmar 16STs on order, so we'll see how this all goes. I'll say at $150/pop I'm not keen to replace the bases. I'll do up a project post once these come in and I get it going. Looking forward to it. I barely sailed last year, and a good chunk of it is that single handing on a narrow lake wit...

CD27- Lewmar bronze ST winches
Looks like there's going to be some extra coin in the boat funds bucket this spring. Of all the things I wished I had single handing on busy lake, it's self tailing winches. I've got my eye on the Lewmar bronze 16s as a replacement for the barient 16s that came with the CD27. Anyone else make this s...

Recoating varnish on drop boards
Did up the teak drop boards three years ago using Le Tonkinois. Time to put on a few more coats, this time with Epiphanes. If I understand correctly, give them a light wash, scuff up the old varnish with 220 grit and then normal varnish technique for application? Edit: In case it matters, the side f...

Much appreciated John. And always nice to get photos of the FR, that teak cap is a nice touch.

Coaming boards - thickness and material
The local lumber yard just got a pile of 4/4 quarter sawn sapele, and the coaming boards on myCD27 have seen better days. Is there a general rule of thumb for coaming board thickness? I figure 4/4 will end up closer to 3/4 by time of install, and not sure if that's going to do the trick.
